I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately regarding how coaches talk during their introductory press conferences. They always use the same playbook: promise a return to the "glory days," talk about grit, toughness, and rebuilding a specific kind of identity. It sounds great in a speech, but as a fan, it’s hard to know whether to get hyped or just wait for the inevitable reality check.

In my experience, you can't just flip a switch and make a program "tough" again just because a new guy with a loud voice says so. It feels like a lot of branding. Sometimes it works, but more often than not, it feels like they are just trying to sell a vision to a fanbase that is hungry for a win. It’s easy to promise championship-level competition when you’re standing behind a podium; it’s much harder when you're actually in the thick of a grueling season.

Do you guys think these big "identity" promises from new leadership are actually meaningful, or is it mostly just PR to get the fans on board?
