I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much of "success" is actually just managing your own head. We always see the highlight reels and the podium finishes, but we rarely talk about the sheer terror someone must feel right before the whistle blows or the starting gun goes off. It’s easy to say "just go out there and do it," but for someone performing under a microscope, that’s easier said than done.

I remember watching a friend of mine compete in a regional tournament a few years back. She was arguably the most talented person in the room, but she completely froze up during the opening minutes. It wasn't a lack of skill; it was just the weight of everyone's eyes on her. It made me wonder if we overvalue raw talent and undervalue the psychological grit it takes to actually execute when the pressure is at its peak.

Do you think elite performers are born with that kind of composure, or is it something you can actually train yourself to master?
