How does alcoholism actually impact someone living with diabetes? In other words, what does alcohol really do to their body?

Look, this is a massive topic and definitely not a simple one. That’s why people usually just tell you to cut out alcohol entirely—it's the easiest, healthiest path to take. 😁 Most people realize there’s a huge variety of drinks out there, much like how diabetes comes in two distinct types. 😁

Since alcohol messes with how you process carbs and fats—which are already all over the place when you're dealing with diabetes—it also throws your hunger cues totally out of whack... which just opens the door for hypoglycemia or ketoacidosis. And honestly, that's just the tip of the iceberg.

It all depends on the type of alcohol you're drinking and which type of diabetes you're dealing with. Don't oversimplify things like that without looking at the facts.

Look, I’ve heard that heavy drinking over a long period—we’re talking constant, daily stuff—can actually trigger diabetes. That was one of the potential side effects I was trying to get at when I kicked off this whole thread...

I mean, sure, if you drink enough to trigger severe pancreatitis, then your whole pancreas just gives up on you... and at that point, dealing with diabetes becomes one of your much smaller problems...😬

Look, the reason I’m asking is because a buddy of mine mentioned his neighbor used to drink like a fish, and now he's dealing with some serious blood sugar issues—he claims he was diagnosed with diabetes, though I didn't buy it at first.
I'm telling you, there's actual truth to the idea that heavy drinking can wreck your glucose levels, and since he's insisting he actually has the disease, I've got plenty of reasons to take this seriously.

Apparently, those bullfighters in Spain have sex before a fight to sharpen their vision (or so they said in one of those James Bond movies), and if you consider masturbation a substitute for that, I don't know if it's harmful or not, but honestly, that is just a stupid, useless response to an equally useless comment. We're supposed to be talking about diabetes and alcoholism here, not whatever that was... 👍 🤣
