Hey everyone.

So, here's the situation.
A few days ago, everything seemed fine—just sitting at my computer—when suddenly I couldn't catch my breath and my heart started racing like crazy. I headed to the ER, where they clocked my pulse at about 150.

They admitted me to the hospital, hooked me up to monitors, and I spent part of the night dealing with sinus tachycardia, with my heart rate jumping between 100 and 150 depending on how bad the episode was.

I was discharged the next day with instructions to just rest. They gave me some Caterpillar 500mg for a sore throat, but nothing specifically for the heart issue.

I'll paste my discharge labs below, in case anyone here actually knows how to read this stuff.

L 13.2, DKS neseg.2%, SEG 78%, LY 14%, MON 4%, EOZ 2%, E 5.1, Hgb 152 ,Htc 0.46, MCV 89, Trc 309, GUK 6.1, kreatinin 66, ureja 3.2, CRP 0.2, ALT 47 ,AST 54, GGT 60, LDH 218, CK 426, Na 140, K 3.4, Ca 2.60

EKG: sinus tachycardia 110/min, follow-up EKG: sinus rhythm 62%min, non-specific ST-T changes.

The doctors told me to get my thyroid checked and maybe wear a Holter monitor if needed, then sent me on my way.

Of course, I’ll feel perfectly fine all day, only to have that chest pressure or sharp stabbing sensation hit me at night, making it hard to breathe. I can't tell if it's actual tachycardia or if my pulse is just hitting 100 because I'm panicking.

I'm honestly at a loss. Right now, I'm just sitting at my desk—no stress, no pressure—and I can still feel this heaviness in my chest. If anyone has any suggestions, personal experiences, or even just advice, please help; I really don't know what to do.

I know people usually chalk this up to anxiety, but life is actually pretty stable right now. Girlfriend, house, money... everything is great, yet my heart won't leave me alone.

edit:

Just my luck, post number 666. :S

Moderator, could you move this? I just realized I posted this in the women's health section... haven't updated my gender settings yet.😁

Sinus tachycardia basically means your heart rate is climbing above 100 beats per minute. It happens when your sinus node—which is usually perfectly healthy—starts firing off impulses a bit too fast. This can be triggered by things like a fever, intense exercise, thyroid issues, or even certain medications. In younger people, that rate can actually shoot up to 180 bpm. For the most part, the rhythm stays regular,
It can also hit you out of nowhere if you're dealing with a sudden spike in emotional stress.
Since you mentioned you aren't feeling any other symptoms and haven't been under much stress lately, it might be a good idea to get your thyroid levels checked out. I'd also suggest getting a 24-hour Holter monitor; it’s a great way to see exactly how your heart rhythm behaves while you're resting versus when you're active.
Honestly, this might just be something temporary, so try not to panic. Keep your chin up and hang in there—maybe you've just been ☕

Had some bloodwork done last week—they sent it off to the nuclear medicine department over in Indianapolis, presumably for my kidneys—so now I’m just playing the waiting game for the results.
Honestly, I’m praying it’s just stress-related and nothing serious. Either way, once those reports come in, I'll circle back to this thread.

Thanks for getting back to me 🙂

Could be the thyroid... either way, get your hormone levels checked and wear that Holter monitor like your doctor suggested so they can track your rhythm over a full 24 hours. Best.
