So, I’m assuming he’s dealing with that thing—I can't even remember the name—where you just stop breathing while you're asleep.
I figured this out because he’s pretty loud 😁 when he sleeps. Between the snoring and all the gurgling noises, it’s a lot. But then, suddenly, everything goes silent, and my brain basically sets off an alarm telling me something is wrong.
I started paying closer attention, and it seems like during deep sleep, his breathing just... stops. It’s almost like breathing isn't an automatic reflex for him anymore; he has to manually trigger it, so once he’s out, he just stops. It honestly scares me, so I usually end up 😁 giving him a little nudge or saying something out loud just to wake him up. Once he does, he gasps for air like someone who was drowning. This happens quite often. I haven't noticed any specific triggers like heavy meals or stress.
These pauses in breathing can last for nearly an hour, or even longer, at least while I'm awake.
He has no clue it's happening in the morning, obviously. No headaches from lack of oxygen, no fatigue, nothing.
Does anyone know what this sleep disorder is called or who I should talk to about getting help?
Thanks.😉
