Just a heads-up in case you haven't been hit by this crap yet—here’s what’s coming for you: it hits fast, usually starts with a mild fever and just feeling totally wiped out. Then comes the stomach pain and those sudden, violent bouts of vomiting. It’s basically a viral infection that rips through your respiratory system and your entire digestive tract at once.
It spreads like wildfire among kids.
The absolute worst part? While you're in the thick of it, you can't keep a single thing down. Nothing.
If there are any medical professionals hanging out in here, maybe we could put together a decent diet plan?
If I remember right, sticking to some herbal tea and dry toast for the first couple of days helps?
Thanks for the tips.

Dealing with a basic case of stomach flu is mostly about playing catch-up. You’re just trying to swap out all those lost fluids and electrolytes with things like herbal tea or some salty broth. If you've got kids, you'll want to use an oral rehydration solution—something like Pedialyte—to keep them steady. Honestly, you should only be looking at an IV drip in the more serious cases when they can't keep anything down.

Foods you should stay far away from:

Greasy junk, anything deep-fried, roasted stuff, fruit juices, and drinks loaded with simple

sugars

What you actually can eat:

Rice, grains, potatoes, veggies (just make sure they're

boiled), bananas, apples, low-fat dairy

products (like fresh cottage cheese), lean

meat (chicken, veal)

The old-school BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) is pretty useless if you try to live on just that because you'll be totally lacking

energy, protein, and healthy fats. Don't use it as your whole life; it’s just something to

add to the rest of the allowed food list.

It hit me hard last night. Between 9 PM and 4:30 AM, I was dealing with nine bouts of vomiting and at least that many runs to the bathroom. On top of that, I had this relentless, agonizing cramping in my gut that just wouldn't let up for nine straight hours. No fever, but honestly, there were moments when the pain felt genuinely fatal. I haven't managed to eat anything today besides a little bowl of soup, and I've been sipping tea all day. The diarrhea hasn't stopped, though it's finally losing some steam. I feel completely drained—I look like I've aged ten years in a single night.

I haven't eaten a single thing today besides a little bowl of soup. Just sipping tea all day long. The runs are still going, though they're a bit weaker now. I am completely drained... I look like I've got a terminal illness.

Hopefully you're just exaggerating how bad you look😁
Are you sure you didn't drink anything?😁

I didn't deal with the stomach issues, but man, the vomiting was brutal and I felt totally wiped out for a few days straight.
Now I'm starting to turn a corner with that, but instead, I've got this nasty sinus infection and bronchitis kicking my ass—and I don't even smoke!

I haven't even left my bed, yet I feel like I've been run over by a freight train; I'm certainly not feeling my best.

Just get cozy and try to sleep it off. It'll pass before you know it.🙂

But seriously, if you're feeling absolutely trashed, just call 911 and ask them how to make the vomiting stop.

If things are getting truly unbearable, give 911 a call and ask them how to manage the vomiting.

The vomiting actually stopped on its own, just as suddenly as it started.

From what I understand, salmonella doesn't usually cause you to start vomiting quite that rapidly.

Uh... it hit me on Saturday. I didn't actually throw up, but my stomach started cramping out of nowhere, followed by this insane growling and nausea—not quite "running to the bathroom" levels of sickness, but enough. Plus, a killer headache.
Then came the diarrhea yesterday morning and again this morning. 🙂
Right now, I’m just nursing some tea and dry toast. Even the thought of anything else makes me feel sick, and my stomach is still making all kinds of noise. 😢

Should I try eating some rice for lunch?

Oh, and don't strain it! You want all that good stuff left in there. Make it thick, pack it with garlic, bacon, and olive oil. Throw in some celery too. 👍

Ugh, if I could make this at home, I would... but I'm stuck at work, basically at the mercy of the kitchen staff here.😢
Should I grab some steamed veggies with it? Or just ask them to drizzle on some extra olive oil?

Don't go overboard with the oil, seriously. It'll just kickstart your digestion way too fast 😁
