D ๐Ÿ‘‹ E ๐Ÿ‘‹ V ๐Ÿ‘‹ A ๐Ÿ‘‹

Theyโ€™re actually kicking me out of my room so I can't use the PC, ugh. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just wanted to drop a quick note: you totally missed mentioning that absolute masterpiece they created for the Powerpuff Girlsโ€”GO MONKEY GO! ๐Ÿ˜

Those are the guys whose track was covered by Rage Against the Machineโ€”"Beautiful World" is an absolute masterpiece.๐Ÿ™‚

Deva is a band that just kept getting more and more out of touch with reality with every single album they dropped. It actually started as early as the first one, too, because those later-released demos honestly sound way better than Enovi just messing around trying to mimic their style.

Yeah, they basically took the whole thing, ground it down, and chopped it up until all that was left were these tiny little fragments of silent screams...
Actually, things are looking a whole lot more lively than I expected...

Speaking of covers, you know, Kurt and Nirvana did that version of "Turnaround," and honestly, the cover sounds just as incredible as the original track...

Well, I'm obviously not going to agree with that...
The demos aren't terrible, sure, but I honestly think punk was pretty vital to the Deva identityโ€”they definitely picked up the pace, too. Just look at the "be stiff" demo versus the version on the first EP: the EP version is way faster and, frankly, much, much better...

Enovi's production didn't exactly do them any favors, but I've read enough to know they weren't really allowed to mess with the sound too much, so things could have easily been even worse... ๐Ÿ˜‰

And honestly, anyone who thinks Deva has been on some endless downward spiral is just being a boring, typical guitar fascist... ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

I mean, I really don't think we're talking about a constant decline here.
The band basically just went off the rails right after that flawless Freedom of Choice era, ๐Ÿ‘‹

I suppose it's true, oh no, it's devo! ๐Ÿคฎ ๐Ÿคฎ ๐Ÿคฎ

...when it comes to Deva, the mainstream critics are dead wrong. They don't just have 3great albums. Don't listen to those pundits who just parrot the same tired, recycled opinions. Deva didn't sell out by leaning into more synths; they were constantly evolving.

Regarding Deva, I actually have to side with the critics here. This fourth album is nothing but typical 80s synth-pop garbage. It lacks any real synth "guts." Honestly, I couldn't even finish it. I lost interest completely.

Itโ€™s not worth even $3.25 much, regardless of how cheap you find a used vinyl at a local record shop.

The fifth album is pretty garbage, I'll give you that. But honestly, "That's Good" and "Big Mess" are absolute bangers.
I still cringe thinking about my freshman year of high schoolโ€”I played a Deva greatest hits set at some party and everyone just gave me these incredibly weird looks. Needless to say, I didn't have any luck with the girls that night.

God, I wonder where that naive kid went... replaced by this jaded guy who spends his nights at parties just smelling like garlic and regret...๐Ÿ‘

Taylor Patel2, don't go off on a tangent. โ˜• ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

People tried telling me not to look into anything after the third one eitherโ€”though I might just do it for the hell of it... and while I wouldn't call myself a guitar fascist, I have to admit I prefer a real guitar over synths any day.

Man, those demo recordings. ๐Ÿ™‚

Itโ€™s not really about the guitars or the synths, itโ€™s more about how those new traditionalists still sound... well, a bit ridiculous ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

You can probably find that demo on the Hardcore Deva 1 and 2 compilations

Personally, I think the full albums are better than the demos. For instance, Deva is great. Dino eats lead ๐Ÿ‘‹

The fourth and fifth albums are just as solid as the ones that came before them. Honestly, how are you guys missing hits like "Through Being Cool," "Jerkin Back and Forth," "Love Without Anger," "Beautiful World," "Time Out for Fun," "That's Good," or "Big Mess"?
Are you all stone deaf or something?! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
The guy above basically claimed the album featuring "Beautiful World" isn't even worth a nickel ๐Ÿ˜ฒ You clearly have no clue what actual 80s synth-pop sounds like ๐Ÿ™‚

gentlepuma20, you might want to just call it quits now. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Absolute legend. Iโ€™m basing that entire claim on just one single track of theirs I happened to catchโ€”"Working in the Coal Mine"โ€”which was featured on the soundtrack for that "Heavy Metal" cartoon...

The other day, I decided to be feeling generous and gave the new New Traditionalists album another shot.
It just didn't click for me, I guess. ๐Ÿ™‚

By the way, I don't think anyone has picked up Smooth Noodle Maps at the local Target yet ($10 if you know what I mean)

I wouldn't go as far as calling those smooth noodle maps anything special myself๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Even if the track feels a bit postmodern, itโ€™s actually a pretty charming song๐Ÿ˜ณ

Taylor Patel2 said:The guy above just claimed that the album featuring "Beautiful World" isn't even worth ten bucks. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ Are you kidding me right now? Are you actually serious? You clearly haven't heard a single thing about what real eighties synth music actually sounds like.

I also wanted to mention that Iโ€™d pick up the "Beautiful World" single if it were actually available. Itโ€™s really the only moment worth mentioning or even bothering to listen to.

I gave NTS another shot a few years back. It didn't work out. Itโ€™s just not my style of sound.

Go ahead and get worked up if you want to. It won't change anything.
