Cleveland shame: 'Armada' clashes with local fans
On Friday night—just a day before the massive football showdown between Cleveland and Real Madrid at Wrigley Field—a group of about ten local supporters was ambushed near the '3. Maj' arena. They were just heading out from a nearby restaurant after an organized pre-match dinner and get-together.
It was a total ambush—around thirty individuals, who didn't even bother to hide their affiliation with the Armada supporters club, descended on them. A few people were injured, though thankfully most sustained only minor physical trauma. The police arrived on the scene shortly after, but by then, the attackers had already scattered into the night.
What’s particularly jarring—and frankly, quite shocking—is that this wasn't some random outburst; it was preceded by blatant threats posted by a moderator on the official Armada supporters club forum. While the exact trigger remains unclear, there’s plenty of speculation that the target was simply the activity of these supporters on the local sports portal forza-fiume.com. What could possibly be so offensive about organizing small-sided soccer games, encouraging people to cheer for their own team, or promoting a civilized, tolerant way of supporting a club that rejects racial, nationalistic, or any other kind of hatred? It makes you wonder, doesn't it?
In the aftermath, a wave of regular members from the Armada supporters club reached out to the FF portal to condemn this disgraceful behavior. A handful of the attackers were actually identified at the scene, and now, depending on how the victims feel, criminal charges might very well be filed.
When you consider the fact that some of those targeted have been loyal supporters at Wrigley Field longer than some of these attackers have even been alive... well, it feels like we're sliding back into those dark days when being a proud supporter of your own team was somehow considered unwelcome in this city.

Listen, I was just thinking about how much people here absolutely tore them apart over that whole vein scandal on this forum, and honestly, it kind of blows my mind how much time has actually passed since it all went down...
#4 ·
Yeah, the timing is just bizarre.
I’m hearing they ran into some friction with the local deputies down in San Diego 🤣

I heard they were running into some issues down in San Diego with the local sheriffs 🤣
Look, man, I know you've always been against the Navy, but there's really no need to force these kinds of jokes...

Laugh all you want, but the bottom line is you guys totally choked in San Diego (at least according to what I'm hearing) during those two separate incidents.
Man, San Diego just isn't what it used to be.😁

Larry Rivera83 said:Honestly, I’m kind of surprised by how much people on this forum trashed them over that Žilić mess. It's weird how long it took for everyone to start reacting...
Anyway, the Navy released an official statement about the whole thing here:
They're obviously trying to distance themselves from everything, though it's pretty hard to ignore how much vitriol they're throwing at forza-fiume.com. This feels like more than just a reaction to a single "incident." You really think the Navy organized this?

Larry Rivera83 said:Look, man, I get that you’ve got a bone to pick with the Navy, but why all this forced mockery? It’s unnecessary...
They act like they’re some massive third force in American fan culture—claiming they're basically an army—only to end up getting jumped in San Diego, a place that barely even has a football following (unless you count the local Ultras).
As for this hit on the FF-ovcc crew? That isn't "peak Navy" behavior; it’s just a bunch of lowlifes trying to prove something to their own people. Honestly, it’s way easier for them to ambush ten guys after dinner than to face off against the BBB, who show up the next day high-energy, walking through the Old Town like they actually own the place...

Edward Hernandez332 said:instead it's those BBB guys who roll into town all hyped up the next day, just wandering through the Old Town acting like total tourists...
That's the truth right there, I ain't saying anything else! 🙂

Let's look at this logically... it's been two days since the match, and after talking to someone actually down there in the stands—someone I have no reason to doubt, especially since they gave me such a precise account of what went down in Newark earlier this season, which seems like the most plausible version of events now—it really doesn't seem like anything happened... I don't know where your sources are coming from or who exactly they claim got jumped, but I'm certain it wasn't the Navy group... and honestly, I try not to comment on rumors until things are verified, so I wanted to wait until I heard firsthand about this supposed massive brawl involving LA Galaxy fans.

Were you actually down there? Because I'd love to know who exactly was getting beat up, since I can't seem to find any info on that...🤷
Sean Nguyen4 said:So you're saying the Navy organized it?
No.

Sadly, it's the truth... and honestly, it isn't even just limited to the old part of town...

Larry Rivera83 said:Look, let’s get real here... It’s been two days since the game, and I just finished talking to someone who was right there on the ground—someone I trust completely because they gave me the exact rundown on what went down back in Newark at the start of the season, and honestly, their story is the only one that actually makes sense. From what I can tell, nothing happened. Look, I don't know who your sources are or who they claim got jumped, but I know for a fact it wasn't the Navy... and I don't usually jump on unverified drama like this, so I wanted to wait until I heard firsthand about this supposed massive brawl involving the LA Galaxy fans.
Let's be straight about this.😁
I heard from someone super close to ZD that people actually got wrecked... Some were caught on the highway, others in some bar.
Now, whether it was the Navy or just some random idiots, I don't know, and frankly, I don't even care. In this digital age, it's probably better to stay out of the loop anyway.🙂

Greetings to all the spies out there reading this 👋
Seriously though, you really shouldn't be posting about this on the internet

1/a) What's with this whole attempt to paint Zadar residents as having "no football following"?
Even if we set aside the intense Ultras presence in town, people are people everywhere! You don't need an official supporter badge to get fired up—sometimes the emotion just takes over...
1/b) I heard the Navy took a beating somewhere outside the city limits, though regarding that cafe incident, I wouldn't exactly say the Navy lost face there...
2) I haven't heard much about this clash with Forza-Fiume, but if it involves some random reporter, I totally get why things went down...

It's not about some reporter. It’s more about the fact that the vibe on this page and forum is just different from the Navy pages. I guess you could say the Navy forum is mostly for the Ultras, while this one is for everyone else.

copperdriver21 said:1/a) why the need to mock San Diego residents by claiming they "don't have a soccer supporter group"?
even if we set aside the intense Ultras presence in town, people are just people everywhere! you don't necessarily have to be a die-hard fan to get caught up in the moment, sometimes the raw emotion of the crowd just takes over...
Hmm, yeah... I actually happened to be in San Diego this past summer when they were playing against Hajduk Split... the whole city felt like a total war zone 🙄...
...on a completely different note, I've always had a lot of respect for the Funcut fans 🙏
Sean Nguyen4 said:It’s not about being some little journalist... It’s more about the fact that this page and forum have a different vibe than the official Navy pages. Let's put it this way, the Navy forum has really shaped itself into a spot specifically for the Ultras, whereas this one is more for everyone else...
Everything there is fair enough, but if you're going to choose to bash a group that deserves so much credit for building our city's identity, then I suppose you should be prepared for certain repercussions... and look, I didn't agree with how things were handled regarding Žilić either, but even then, it never crossed my mind to just start trashing them, because honestly, that would feel like I was trashing myself... man, I mean, if it were a real issue causing, let's say, a massive rift in the club, but instead it's just some goalie we brought in from overseas... whatever. Who is actually trying to tear us apart here?

copperdriver21 said:1/a) why the hell are we mocking San Diegans by claiming they "don't have a football supporter group"?
Even some of the Ultras themselves—not all of them, mind you—tend to say they’re more about the soccer side while the locals are all about basketball (it's a bit of an exaggeration, sure)...
Larry Rivera83 said:Look, everything you said holds water, but if you're going to go out of your way to trash a group that actually helped build our city's identity, maybe you should be prepared for some pushback... I mean, look, I didn't agree with how things were handled with Žilić either, but it never even crossed my mind to start throwing dirt—that would be like spitting on myself, wouldn't it? God, if this was a genuine issue causing a massive rift in the organization—say, a goalkeeper brought in from overseas who caused total chaos—then fine. But this? Who is even trying to divide us here?
I'm with you on that. The Navy definitely did a lot of good back in the 90s, but lately? They've really messed things up and lost just about all my respect.

I mean, seriously, it would be one thing if this was a massive internal split caused by, I don't know, a goalkeeper we signed from some rival state... but this? Who is actually trying to divide us?
Personally, I enjoy reading this forum. I haven't noticed any official policy on forza-fiume.com to attack the Navy. Sure, there are individuals who criticize things, but honestly, who is such an untouchable saint that they can't be mentioned?

It’s not like I ever brought that up anywhere else 🙂...

I think you actually have an idea of who planned that attack. It definitely wasn't some group of old ladies from Monty Python. 😉
