Just to clear things up for anyone confused:
Threads aren't locked just because a user wants them to be. They aren't deleted either. As far as I can tell, that’s happened maybe a handful of times—it’s incredibly rare. Look, once you start a thread, you're essentially inviting people to share their thoughts, even if you don't particularly care for what they have to say. A discussion stays active as long as there's a debate happening, and then it eventually fades away (unless the moderators decide to lock it for some reason they deem necessary, not you).
Where would this forum even be if every single person demanded their posts be wiped or closed the moment they got an answer they didn't like—or realized they shouldn't have shared something sensitive, like how they accidentally insulted their secretary yesterday and were worried their wife might see it? Like one of our admins says: "Think before you speak."
If you're worried that posting something will come back to haunt you, then don't post it. If you aren't prepared to hear different perspectives, then don't ask the question. Unfortunately, there isn't really any other way around it.
