Bad actors (A-list or close to it)

Let’s get one thing straight: we aren't talking about niche indie actors here. This is about the big commercial stars—the ones famous enough that they actually make it into theaters across America.
Also, let's stick to people who are still active today.

And look, this isn't a "hate watch" thread. We're looking at more than just acting talent; there are plenty of other factors at play...

I’m also going to pass on commenting on singers like Maddox and that crowd. Honestly, there's nothing left to say there...

I'll kick things off with an actress, though.

Little Mila Kunis was actually pretty cute and charming playing that spoiled brat Jackie Kennedy in Crazy 70s...
But watching her "acting" in that mediocre new Oz flick? Man, I wouldn't even use that footage for a casting call. It’s not like Hollywood is running low on young, hot actresses, so why cast someone this weak? And once they realized how bad she was, how did they not just edit her out entirely?
Honestly, American TV shows have more convincing acting than this. I haven't been this bored by a major US blockbuster in ages.

Hmm, let's get this fire started🙂 Jennifer Aniston said, and honestly, she's playing into that "less is more" vibe which is basically her whole brand at this point. It’s the same story every single time I catch one of her movies... she just uses the exact same set of expressions. It's like she has a specific facial grimace pre-assigned to every emotion, and then she just toggles between them throughout the entire film. I don't really hold my breath thinking she'll suddenly pivot to something totally different in her next project. 🤣 🍿

Adam Sandler, for sure. That guy calls himself a "comedian," but honestly? He’s just not funny...
Robert De Niro totally blew it with those Flocker movies—I mean, what was he even thinking?

I still think Sandler can pull it off when he actually tries. His movies just keep getting worse and worse lately, but he isn't inherently a bad actor...

Olivia Wilde - I don't know what it is, but her arrogant acting style hasn't clicked with me at all since her days on House
Jennifer Aniston - As much as I love her, the character Rachel Green was easily the most annoying presence on Friends

So I see you guys bringing up Rachel Green. And yeah, look, she’s pretty limited as an actress, but honestly? I could've seen her doing something totally different in Horrible Bosses. I didn't catch Jackie in Oz, though.

I’m with you on Jennifer Aniston. Honestly, a lot of those actors who make the jump from television struggle because they can't shake off their TV personas. Part of it is that, and part of it is they’re just mediocre actors who can only play one specific type of character and nothing else. (Though we’ve already beaten this to death in other television 😬 threads)

Then there’s that whole wave of young superheroes. For instance, I found Captain America to be a totally miserable character, even after seeing him in a few movies.

Jessica Alba is another one—just a pretty average actress who seems to pop up everywhere. Same with Jennifer Gardner. And little Chris Hemsworth is terrible; the older version is actually a decent actor.

I could never get into Kirsten Dunst either. Even though she’s been in plenty of different films, she always feels exactly the same to me. 🤷

I honestly think Eric Roberts is a total lost cause.🤷

Looking at these "new" guys like Shia LaBeouf, I mean, seriously, who the hell pushed him into Hollywood? 🙏
I bet he couldn't even pull off playing a member of the Secret Service. He’d probably just mess something up while trying to stand still.

As for the women, take Jennifer Lopez. She could have had anything with her music career, but having a great body doesn't make you a top-tier actress.

That blond guy—David Spade. Thank God he hasn't been on TV much lately.

That one bland blue guy who’s somehow everywhere lately—I can't even wrap my head around his name right now... plus about 500 other actors that aren't even worth the breath it takes to list them...

Reading the opening post, my first thought was Mila Kunis. I watched The Book of Eli recently, and she always seems to have this sort of detached, phlegmatic look—almost like she’s wondering herself why she even signed on for the movie. 🤷 It feels like she just looks incredibly bored in every single film she’s in. That’s really all I can gather from any of her roles. Nothing more, I guess. ☕

And then there's Olivia Wilde, who, as Larry Walker24 mentioned, always carries this air of arrogant acting. I’m not sure who manages her, but she constantly has this smug, haughty expression. Because of her specific facial structure—sort of stretched into a square shape—it almost seems like a more intense emotion or a different expression isn't even physically possible for her. 🤷

I also just remembered, Jessica Biel. Her husband, who’s supposedly a singer by trade, actually has more acting chops than she does 🙄🙄

Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Mila Kunis—yeah, I'm with you there.

Robert De Niro? Not bad, but totally overrated. Same goes for Ben Affleck, Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox (she’s borderline bad, honestly), and Adam Sandler... man, there are just too many of them to even list. 😬
Kristen Stewart is both bad and way too hyped up.
Will Ferrell is just terrible. I can't even look at him.

Kristen Stewart—I suppose I mistakenly assumed her talent was tied specifically to Twilight, but she doesn't seem to offer much more than that, either.

Seriously, Uma Thurman is just... wow!

Adam Sandler—as if he’s some kind of comedy genius. Not really.🙄

Will Ferrell—yeah, another one who thinks he's hilarious. He's not.🙄

Ashton Kutcher—I mean, props to his role as Kelsa in the 70s, but everything else is a disaster. He just seems completely lost in every other part he takes.🤷

Jennifer Aniston gets on my nerves because of the roles she picks after Friends. It’s always the exact same formula.🙄 Even so, I'll always have a soft spot for Rachel Green.😁

Honestly, the only big-name actor who consistently nails those raw, emotional roles for me is Nicolas Cage.
I really need to touch on what people say about acting, though. You can't just judge someone's craft based on whether you personally enjoyed the movie or not. Real acting is about how deeply they inhabit a character and truly live within the circumstances of the story...

The previous poster brought up Uma Thurman. Look, her talent isn't measured by whether a specific flick hits the mark for us—movies are complicated things, there are a million moving parts involved.
Just put Uma in a solid production with the right setup, and you’ll see her talent absolutely shine.

In the real world, if you actually want to make it in Hollywood, you have to convince an audience over and over again that your character is real. It’s not like us regular folks—unless we go to a local theater and walk out genuinely blown away, we aren't exactly setting the industry on fire. I'm not saying Hollywood is the ultimate gold standard for quality, but it’s a pretty damn reliable barometer for what actually resonates with the public.

There isn't a single massive blockbuster out there that doesn't feature top-tier actors. At this point, all you're left with is judging them by whether they stare intensely into the camera, if they have dark or blue eyes, or if they just got stuck in a role that doesn't fit—which happens to Cage all too often, predictably.

Personally, I think she's decent—honestly, better than some of the "big name" A-list actresses.

As for my pick for a subpar actress, it’s definitely Naomi Watts. She's just irritating, her acting feels off, and I honestly can't wrap my head around how she pulls in a paycheck when it feels like she isn't actually doing anything. 😁
