My husband has an incredibly thick, full beard. If he goes even two days without grooming, it starts looking a bit unkempt. However, about three months ago, he noticed a small patch where the hair simply stopped growing. When he shaves every few days, the gap becomes quite obvious—it’s almost comical how distinct that little 2cm circle looks. We didn't think much of it at first, but yesterday we were advised to see a doctor, as they mentioned such patches can sometimes be linked to liver issues and shouldn't be ignored. He's a bit more sensitive than I am, a real softie when it comes to health concerns.
Can anyone shed some light on what this might be? I've tried searching online, but I haven't been able to find anything helpful.

Please help.😁

That sounds like alopecia areata. It basically looks like a hairless fingerprint. Most likely, it's due to some kind of inflammation or infection somewhere in the body. These "hotspots" often pop up near the roots of teeth that have had work done, so it would be a smart move for him to check in with his dentist. Sometimes they hide in the nose, throat, or tonsils too...

The best bet is to head to the dentist and get X-rays for any teeth that had root canals or fillings, since that's where those hidden infections usually hang out.

Exactly. I’ve heard about that phenomenon too. A dermatologist actually referred a patient to a dentist, and once the dental issue was sorted out, the beard started growing back.
I'm with stormyheron4 on this one—it could be some underlying process that her husband just isn't aware of or hasn't noticed...👍

You should definitely see a dermatologist. It could be some kind of skin fungal infection...

Thank you all, truly.

After reading through your insights regarding my condition, I did some further research online. It appears there could be a connection involving wisdom teeth, which my husband was actually already scheduled to have extracted. He hasn't been to his dentist in quite some time, so I am making sure he gets an appointment as soon as possible.
