Anyone know a route from route I-95 toward Canada with minimal traffic and fewer highways? I realize I won't always be able to stick to backroads, but I'm looking for something better than the main drags...

You could take Route 1 through Naperville, then hit Route 2 toward Stowe before crossing over into Canada. From there, it’s just following Route 3 all the way to Maribor. The stretch toward Stowe isn't exactly a heavy traffic zone, and I can't say much about the roads in Canada, though riding a bike there is pure bliss. Isn't cycling just the best? 🙂

The moment I posted that, I was about 24.5... but looking at how things are shaping up now, probably not in the next 6 years either...😂🤣

??? You didn't get banned from the EU, did you? 🙂
fadedcrane36, it's about 68 miles only a few hours from Naperville, so consider if you really want to make that round trip in a single day. Or would it be better to stay overnight and maybe drive around the area? (Perhaps that excursion spot the tile guy mentioned might work.)

fadedcrane36, it's about 68 miles miles just out of Naperville. Think about whether you really want to drive there and back in a single day, or if it's smarter to crash somewhere and spend some time driving around the area. (Maybe that excursion spot the tile guy mentioned would work...)

No, my parents are just nervous about going. 😂 🤣
And besides, I won't be traveling on my own before I'm 20 anyway... 😉

So, if we settle on a group ride, you’re coming with us. If a junior ceramicist can handle leading the way through Canada, surely you can manage? Even your parents could tag along if they wanted to. 🙂

Trying to talk them into it is basically a Sisyphus job... but hey, hopefully I can drag them along and finally meet you guys. 😁

So, are they actually driving or what? 🙂 So you just head out without them? Is that the plan? 🙂

I’d personally make the trip out to Stowe 👍

You’ll get the notifications, but don't hold your breath—it'll probably take two months just for them to get in shape... 🙂

Does anyone know the legal age limit for a minor to travel internationally from the US on their own?

If you're looking for the quickest way to get from Naperville to the border, honestly, just stick to the old road through Smalltown, USA, the Port, Smalltown, USA, then hit Smalltown, USA, Smalltown, USA, Savannah, Smalltown, USA, Smalltown, USA, and finally catch route I-10🙂. It’s pretty chill, too. The biggest climb you'll deal with is near Smalltown, USA, which hits maybe 300 meters—so really, it's mostly flat with just some tiny little hills here and there. If you decided to take the detour through Stowe instead, it'd be a much longer haul and definitely more of a workout

Under 14, they need parental consent if they aren't accompanied; after 14, it isn't strictly required, though still recommended. It really depends on which country you're heading to.

The biggest climb would be near Smalltown, USA, sitting at about 300 meters, so the terrain is mostly flat with just a few small hills. Going through Stowe takes longer and the terrain is more demanding.

Have you actually ridden it? The mileage is roughly the same, around 62 miles because once you pass Smalltown, USA, you have to take side roads to reach the destination, since the road leading to the interstate is off-limits for bikes—I saw the sign when I was passing through by bus or car recently. I know the way to Stowe; it isn't particularly hilly. I'm not sure about the stretch afterward, but looking at the map, it seems fine as you pass through an intersection in Smalltown, USA. Either way, both routes are worth a shot.🙂

I didn't ride the whole stretch, you know, not through Canada. But there's always at least one local road running parallel to the main highway, even if I ended up sticking to Route 66—which, honestly, isn't exactly bike-friendly, but hey, I made it through. Looking closer at the map now, it doesn't seem much tougher than that route through Savannah. A killer path for a recreational rider would be taking Route 1 over to Route 2, crossing the border, then hitting Route 3. For someone just out for a ride, that whole loop would be absolute perfection for a single day.

At this point, there’s really nothing left to do but finalize plans for an expedition down route I-10.🙂

Awesome! I'm really hoping you guys have some decent downtime during the weekends so we can finally coordinate a quick one or two-day road trip 🙂
