Hey everyone. πŸ™‚
I’ve run into a bit of a situation, so I’m just going to throw this question out there into the void:
This past Sunday evening, I ended up in the ER because I was hit with these intense tremors, a racing pulse, high blood pressure, and dilated pupils. (Honestly, it was one of those moments where you feel pure, unadulterated terror.)
The doctors ran some blood work and told me everything looked fine 🀷
They suggested the symptoms might be triggered by smoking 🀷 or potentially an issue with my thyroid (though I need to follow up with my primary care physician regarding thatβ€”she’s actually been out of the office for a few days and won't be back until next week).
Since then, I haven't touched a cigarette, and I've been being pretty careful about my diet and stuff.
And just to clear the airβ€”for the recordβ€”I don't do drugs. (The ER staff made sure to ask me that directly.) 😁
.
But over the last couple of days, I've been feeling strange: mostly extreme drowsiness (I can sleep for 12 hours straight and still wake up feeling exhausted) along with daytime fatigue and occasional lightheadedness. Sometimes, I can even hear and feel my heart pounding in my chest 😒

Does anyone have any insight into what might be going on, or what I should expect when I finally sit down with my doctor?
Thanks a lot πŸ™‚

A few months back, I went through something remarkably similar while sitting in the waiting room for my primary care physician. She sent me straight to a cardiologist without much hesitation. After they ran an EKG and did a quick checkup, they basically told me my heart was perfectly fine and... goodbye! Even though I was visibly shaking, barely able to stand, dealing with high blood pressure, and feeling my heart racing, they just brushed it off by suggesting it might be the onset of a heart attack and thenβ€”once againβ€”sent me on my way!
During that period, I was experiencing those tremors and feeling generally unwell quite frequently, but that particular instance was truly awful.
The doctors never actually bothered to offer an explanation for what was happening, nor did they seem particularly interested in investigating the cause.
Now that those symptoms have subsided, I suspect they might have been side effects from the dexamethasone injections I was taking to manage some heavy coughing and shortness of breath.
It is worth mentioning that I have dealt with thyroid issues for years nowβ€”an autoimmune condition where my hormone levels stay steadyβ€”but I am fairly certain that isn't the culprit here since my regular checkups show everything is within the normal range.
I suppose I haven't been much help, have I?!
I really just wanted to reassure you not to worry too much, but definitely pay close attention to how your body reacts, do your own research, and if these issues persist, try to figure out for yourself which specific tests would be most beneficial to request.
I truly believe the people on this forum can offer a wealth of great advice. Since doctors sometimes treat these kinds of concerns a bit too lightly, you really have to take charge of your own health!

It could potentially be panic attacks, which might also be linked to thyroid issues. I’d suggest getting your hormone levels checked or just scheduling a consultation with your doctor.

Nancy Grant77 said:It could just be panic attacks, which, if you think about it, can often be tied back to thyroid issues. You should probably get your hormone levels checkedβ€”go have a serious sit-down with your primary care physician.

And honestly, you might be onto something there. It’s entirely possible these panic attacks are a byproduct of everything else going on; I’ve been feeling this sudden surge of anxiety and restlessness lately, likely because I was just so shaken up by the whole ordeal the other day. As if my life wasn't complicated enough already... 🀦
But regardless, I have an appointment with my doctor next week, so I'll finally get some actual answers.
Thanks for the insight. πŸ™‚
