My son is 12 years old. When he was just a toddler, he underwent surgery to remove a cavernous hemangioma from his brain. The surgeons successfully removed everything. Since then, he’s dealt with frequent headaches. They were rare during the summer, but usually, he’d wake up with a headache that faded quickly. However, over the last week, things have changed. He’s waking up in the middle of the night in pain, and standard OTC meds like Tylenol or Advil aren't touching it. These headaches start in the evening and persist until morning; during the day, he seems fine. I am looking for anyone with experience regarding this type of hemangioma. What is the likelihood of recurrence? Is it possible for it to return so suddenly? His MRI from eight months ago showed nothing unusual. I've heard these growths tend to develop slowly.
