Budget PC build: $450 max

Hello there,

I am looking for some guidance on putting together a PC build with a budget of up to $2,500 $1000, excluding any peripherals. My main goal is to ensure the machine can smoothly run Overwatch along with those other modern titles that kids seem to be playing these days. I am perfectly fine with ordering from major online retailers with reliable shipping or even picking something up at a local Best Buy or Micro Center. Thanks for the help! 😁

I think this is the best way to go, though adding another 4 GB of RAM would be highly recommended. You could save a bit by going with an APU configuration and 2x4 GB of RAM, but that’s a much weaker option right now for just a few dollars less.

The MSI video card AMD Radeon RX 560 features 4GB of GDDR5 memory with a 128-bit interface, clocking in at 1196MHz/7000MHz on a PCI-E 3.0 x16 connection, and comes equipped with DP, HDMI, and DVI ports.
Maybe it's just me, but I think this Crucial DDR4 4GB 2400 MHz (P/N: CT4G4DFS824A) might be worth a look.
I guess there's the Intel Pentium G4560 3.50 GHz Socket 1151.
Maybe it’s an ASR H110M-DGS R3.
The MS HELIOS III case, just the chassis without the power supply.
I guess the Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 3 WD10EZEX is a decent enough option for storage.
The LC-Power LC6350 350W Super Silent 80+ Bronze ATX power supply.
MS PC COOL 12cm case fan (for the front panel)

All things considered: $990 Downtown Chicago.

With only 4GB of RAM right now, I guess it's enough to get by for Overwatch, CS:GO, and maybe some other lighter games.

It is technically possible to squeeze in 8GB of RAM at that price point, but you’d be forced to swap in a GT 1030 and some cheap off-brand power supply from a place like Walmart. Honestly, it's better to leave things as they are for now; upgrading the memory later on is a simple enough task.

Do you think it's doable to pull all of this together for under $3,000?

I’d probably skip those older i5 chips; the value just isn't there. Plus, 8GB feels like it might struggle a bit if you're pushing it.

The i3 8100 is basically just a rebranded i5 7600 without the TurboBoost enabled.

Or, if I decide to ditch the case entirely and just go with that Zalman cooler, would it be possible to squeeze in 8GB of RAM? I don't have to stick strictly to a $3,000 budget, either.

Yeah, it’s doable. The case is $96, and 4GB of RAM is $110.
