Hey everyone,

I'm looking to put together a desktop build with a budget of up to $600—and I'd prefer to source everything specifically from Micro Center.
The main goal here is just general web browsing; honestly, an SSD is more than enough since I won't be doing any heavy downloading or anything intensive.
Also, if you could include a wired keyboard and mouse combo in the suggestions, that would be great.

Thanks!

$600 an SSD? And a monitor?

For that kind of money and with those specific requirements (SSD and Diskont24)...

Microsoft industrial MS Flam case without PSU - $128.70
Corsair VS350 PSU - $258.95
MSI MB H81M-P33 - $333.24
Kingston DDR3 1600MHz, CL11, 2GB - $113.65
Kingston DDR3 1600MHz, CL11, 2GB - $113.65
Intel box Processor Intel Celeron G1820 - $269.91
LG GH24NSC0 sat Bulk Black 24x optical drive - $97.50
OCZ SSD ARC 100 120GB,R475 /W395,75K,S3 - $475.09

$597 cash

Honestly, that red case looks hideous. If you don't actually need an optical drive, just grab a better case for that price.😬

EDIT: forgot to include the keyboard and monitor.🙈

+ Genius KM-110X keyboard+mouse, USB, black - $28 (screw it, I blew the budget)😬

Thanks everyone

Do we even need the monitor? And maybe it would make more sense to go with a beefier CPU and a smaller SSD instead?

I don't think you really need a beefier processor just for browsing—though I guess having extra disk space is always a solid move.

If you pair a 60GB SSD with a Pentium G3220, you aren't really gaining much. I guess the Celeron isn't any slower for those kinds of tasks, and you'll end up with way less storage—which might not even be enough for your programs and files.

A quick cleanup:

Microsoft industrial MS Flam case (no PSU)
Zalman 400-LX PSU, 400W, ATX12V V2.31, active PFC
MSI MB H81M-P33, S.1150
Intel box Processor Intel Celeron G1820, BX80646G1820
Patriot SSD Blaze R545/W430, 120GB, 7mm, 2.5"
Kingston DDR3 1600MHz, CL11, SR, 4GB

Total: $542
+ a coffee maker if you need one

Alright, that’s it then—thanks! I ended up pulling the trigger, though I decided against that tacky case. Instead, I went with one of those Naviatec 6030 chassis models; honestly, I think it looks much better than that red one.

Well, if you haven't pulled the trigger yet, maybe grab the Corsair VS4-S instead, because that Naviatec unit is honestly total garbage. I guess that brings the total to $610 overall.
