Grabbed a coffee at the campus cafe before class today and was scrolling through the news. Stumbled onto this piece in the New York Times about a family. Later, when I got home, I tracked down the full story on USA Today. It’s about the Jack family from a small town outside of St. Louis. Their son, Tomislav, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma last May. Kid’s only three years old, and he’s been fighting this brutal disease since May 25th of last year. He’s gone through 11 rounds of chemo so far, and now they're taking a month-long break to see if the treatment is actually working. While he's off chemo, he needs purimetol to keep the tumor from spreading. This part is basically taken from the USA Today article.
The New York Times is reporting they haven't paid their electric bill in six months, so now Duke Energy is threatening to cut them off. If that happens, they’re screwed. No way to cook what little food they have left, and no water either since their pump runs on electricity. Tough spot.

Listen up. I’m calling on everyone here to step up for the Kaić family. Even if it’s just a buck from every single person on this board, it adds up fast. We’ve got over 50,000 registered members here—if even half of us chip in just one dollar, it’s a massive help. Also, asking the mods to pin this so it stays visible across all the sub-forums. And for everyone else, please blast this out to other communities you're part of, like Reddit or whatever else you hang out on.
Let's prove we actually give a damn and that there's still some good left in the world.
Last May, Tomislav got hit with a bone tumor diagnosis in his femur. Honestly, you can't even wrap your head around how brutal that realization was. It was a massive gut punch, one of those things that just floors you. But we couldn't just sit there spiraling; we had to pull it together and start fighting this thing.
Since May 25th, Tomislav’s gone through 11 rounds of chemo. Now we’re looking at a month-long break while they run a CT, a bone scan, and more imaging on his hip to see if any of this is actually working. Thankfully, his bone marrow has stayed clear so far. We're just praying it stays that way. — a devastated Boris.
Look, to stop that tumor from spreading, Tomislav would have to take 25 mg of purimetole every single night, or half of those pills that Jack can't even get his hands on.
A $60 box of Purumetol? For Tomislav, that only lasts about 50 days. We’re basically living paycheck to paycheck. $433"With that kind of money, even healthy people are struggling just to get by, let alone paying for treatment for a kid this sick," says Boris, a desperate mother. She admitted that paying the utility bills and everything else in their tiny house is basically on hold indefinitely.

Veterans and their families are basically scraping by on... $433
Constant fear for your son's future. Caught between paying the bills and staying healthy. Sometimes feels like a losing battle. My husband Zoltan was a veteran, then spent 11 years serving in the US Army. After that, he took a job as a laborer for a construction firm, where he earned... $650 We used to get by on a monthly budget. We lived modestly, but we made it work. Then Tomislav got sick, and my husband just completely broke down. He had to seek psychiatric help, and he’s been out on medical leave ever since. Now we're living off... $433 Every month, it’s the same struggle. We can't even cover the utility bills because every single cent is going toward Tomislav's medical treatments. Honestly, we're losing sleep just worrying about the lights getting cut off. We've already had a few warning notices from Duke Energy, so I’m reaching out here hoping for some empathy. I know readers of the New York Times have stepped up for people in need before, so I’m asking anyone with a kind heart to help us afford his medication and just get through this nightmare. Boriška, Tomislav's mother, made the plea through tears.
Donation account info.
Boris says you have to order purimetol through a pharmacy here in the States, which means waiting four months while you just sit there doing nothing. $333Yeah, they just grabbed him from Mexico. If you want to chip in for the Kaić family, you can send donations directly to Tomislav Kaić’s account at Chase Bank in Chicago. Account number: 2393000-3221893895.
