Hey there.

I'm running into a headache while trying to format my Windows installation... I went into the BIOS and set it to boot from the CD/DVD drive, disabling the other two options, but it just skips right past everything. It goes straight from the BIOS splash screen to the Windows boot loader without ever giving me the chance to hit a key to start the disc... 🤷

Is the CD/DVD bootable?
You’ll need to prompt it with "Press Any Key .....?"

Are we talking about a desktop or a laptop?

This is the machine I'm working on. It just occurred to me that this might be a DVD-R rather than a +R, which could be causing the headache... I'll try booting via USB instead.

Using a DVD-R shouldn't be an issue, but I guess you should double-check if that disc is actually bootable.

It won't even boot from the USB. When I try to launch the BIOS, it just throws an error saying this specific version only supports hard drives and CD-ROM drives.
I mean, I literally used that same DVD on a laptop just the other day and everything worked perfectly fine...

Maybe the issue is actually the DVD drive itself. You might want to try borrowing another one or just swapping out the SATA cable connecting it to the motherboard.

I just tried booting Windows from a USB drive on my laptop, but when I check the BIOS on my desktop, it says it only supports HARD and CDROM. Is there a way to enable USB support within the BIOS settings itself, or am I stuck having to perform a BIOS update...

BIOS:
Intel, LTD 6.00 PG, 5/23/2008.

You'll need to check the sticker on the bottom of the machine for the manufacturer and the specific model number. Just a heads up, you won't be able to install Winse directly onto the laptop's internal hard drive; you're going to have to run the installation via a USB drive instead.

I'm working on this PC setup and trying to run everything via USB. I've already put together a bootable drive.

Motherboard:
ASUS ROG Motherboard

Over here you can see the full breakdown of everything they fixed in the more recent BIOS updates for this motherboard.
