I’m checking in, but honestly, I’m doing it for love—though, man, I gotta be real with you, I’ve never actually sat down and listened to Trout Mask Replica from start to finish. It’s such a massive undertaking.

Regarding TMR, it’s the kind of album that takes a bit of time to really sink in, but once it does, it stays with you forever.
My advice: just let it play in the background at a low volume while you're busy with chores or whatever, almost as if you aren't even listening to it. I suppose you catch the bug when you least expect it...

Does anyone on this forum happen to have a copy of the Grow Fins compilation?
I tracked it down when I was visiting London, but the price tag was absolutely outrageous.

It doesn't really matter who I am, just what I have to say, but I'd say the answer is a yes.

I find myself thinking of you whenever I listen to Early fall, Lick my Decals, or Arto Lindsay...

Whenever I listen to Tozovac, I can't help but think of Cunet.

The Postmen are actually a great band, even if we don't talk about them enough.
People tend to get a little confused when they try to categorize that blend of folk, nouveau-riche pop, and hard rock-soul satire.
Himzo polovina, Luis, Dertum, Dragačevo, North Mexico... they're all incredible.

As for The Postmen, I guess they basically invented playing, humor, and everything else meaningful about music just to give the local firefighters something to do, and honestly, it works.

...it’s just a fact. Beefheart is a total legend, though it’s a shame he doesn't get much love around here in the States.
I wonder when someone in a big city like New York or Chicago will finally decide to open a dedicated listening lounge for Beefhearta—maybe even throw in some Pere Ubu tracks for good measure?

We really ought to put some pressure on Matt and Bandera.
The only venues where that would actually make sense are KSET, Mocvara, and Attack.

I’d gladly spend the entire night obsessing over Beefheart—but what can you do when the new crowd at the local indie club, during some Pixies video retrospective, just stares back and asks, "What did you say?" or "Who even are those guys?"
It’s pretty much the same story with the audience in general. These kids today usually have zero grasp of rock history; for most of them, the timeline starts either with Grunge and Nirvana or Brit-pop and Oasis...

Look, if Husker could pull it off, then Beefheart definitely can. Though, honestly, he shouldn't go at it alone. He needs some backup. Hmm... maybe get Screaming J. H. involved? 😉

One could argue that Beefhearta might lead into an early Zappa phase. There’s also the possibility of moving toward Waits with something like Rain Dogs or similar records. Perhaps even the Residents. And maybe a track from Mance.
There is also that one piece by Elvis J. Kurtovica where he mentions the captain.

Well, he brings up Mance since you mentioned him. That’s actually how I first heard about Captaina Teleći srce. Or maybe I didn't, but I'm not going to overcomplicate things right now.

So we get this listening session of Captaina, complete with live playing from Mance—who clearly respects and acknowledges Beefhearta, right? There’s plenty of younger crowd out there who looks up to Mance, and they'll end up loving Captaina just because their idol does. There you go. 👍

You could probably bring up Blaskovica and Brecelj here too.

Beefheart. If we were talking about a calf, it would be Calfheart.
