Hey everyone, why don't we all grab a new issue of Car Club?

It comes with a wall calendar—definitely something most guys would appreciate😁—and there's a really solid feature on Gilles😉

The article on Gilles is alright, I guess, but Devcic totally botched the Maserati history here. For him, it’s super out of character because he usually writes pretty solid stuff, but this is just a mess of inaccuracies and nonsense...

As for the article...
It claims: ..."Following his father's death, Jacques (bottom left, with mother Joanna and brother Melanie)..."
First off—the photo isn't bottom left, it's just on the right. And second, Jacques doesn't have a brother; he has a sister, Melanie..."🙄

Then, above the image of the postage stamps issued in honor of Gilles that say 1950-1982, some genius at the auto club writes: "he died in 1983..."

Honestly, I've stopped reading certain car magazines altogether because of stupid—or even stupider—mistakes like this. I used to find total nonsense regarding Formula 1 in the auto club publications too... It makes me wonder why they don't just hire someone who actually loves Formula 1 instead of someone writing about it just because it's their job... 🙄 👎

But whatever. They are one of the few outlets actually covering Formula 1 history, and these little blunders won't matter to anyone who knows nothing about Gilles. If anything, the article might just spark an interest for them to go online and learn more!

Anyway, there’s more where that came from... I’ve actually got a piece in the new Autopartner about how John Surtees pulled off that controversial championship win forty years ago. There'll be stuff on Gilles soon too, hopefully, because I’m trying to push a story about Pironi in one of the upcoming issues, and you can't really tell that story without mentioning Gilles...

And there’s another glaring stupidity in that Autopartner article about GV...
They claim he died at Zolder in Germany... but if you actually bother to know anything about F1 history, you’d know Zolder isn't even in Germany...

Look, I’m not even surprised by Projic... the guy is clearly writing this against his will and it shows he’s just not a fan. But honestly, what really let me down was seeing Devcic—who usually knows his stuff—claiming that Maserati was the first European manufacturer to win in Indy (which isn't even close to being true). He also wrote that this happened back in 1939 and 1940, when Enzo Ferrari was still just a factory driver for Alfa Romeo (so, like, 15 years off on the timing regarding Enzo). There's even more nonsense stuffed into that article...

Man... and now there’s an article about Fangio in the latest issue! 😠 It’s honestly pathetic. This guy clearly has no clue what he’s talking about. He probably saw that some massive moments in Fangio's career happened during the Grand Prix in the UK or the Grand Prix in France, so instead of actually checking which tracks were involved, he just lazily threw in Silverstone and Le Mans without a second thought. What an idiot. 🙂 There are so many factual errors in here I don't even want to start listing them... Nordeschleife? What is that, some kind of northern cover? Definitely not the track he meant. There are at least ten other stupid mistakes I can't be bothered to write out and fix... Just top-tier unprofessionalism.

The latest issue is all about John Surtees. Between my piece dropping in a month and a half and then Projic's article coming up, we've probably covered more ground on him than anything else written in America over the last thirty years... if you don't count Slavicev's book, anyway... 😁

There’s a few dumb mistakes in this article, and honestly, some in Devcic's history of Monteverdi too, but whatever. At least people are actually writing about stuff like this instead of the usual nonsense.

It’s a magazine where the Formula 1 articles actually have fewer mistakes and dumb errors than the competition—at least when they're digging into history. For the newer stuff, I can't make any promises...🙂

So, which magazine actually puts out the best guide for the 2005 season?

The new auto club just dropped an article about Jim Clark—you know, the legend who drove for both Williams and Renault—plus there's a deep dive into the Group B rally era, and even a nice little scorecard to track all the Formula 1 results throughout the season 😉

It's definitely worth checking out 😉
