CD drive issues

I might be totally in the wrong place for this topic—I’m definitely no tech guru or anything...

So, here's the deal. I've got this older CD that just won't cooperate with my laptop. It technically "loads," if you can even call it that, but man, it's such a struggle to get it to recognize. After about 10 minutes of fighting with it, it finally finishes loading, only to tell me there isn't a single file on the disc...😕

The CD is an original one from about 10 years ago, and I'm running Windows 7 on this machine. Interestingly enough, it works perfectly fine on my other computer.

Have you tried popping in a different CD or DVD just to see if it loads normally? It seems like there might be some issues with the optical drive on this laptop... 🤷

So, I just ran some tests with a bunch of different CDs. Some were originals and some were burned, but they were all older discs—and the drive picked up every single one of them without a hitch. But now, whenever I pop in any CD at all, I get this error message... which hasn't happened until now. Here’s the link to what I'm seeing View on imgur

That’s just a Microsoft program... You should probably just reinstall it. Just head over to Google and search for "Microsoft .NET Framework download" and you'll find it.

Couldn't get that CD to load, but at least I'm finally done seeing that annoying error message 🙂

Another thing that comes to mind—and this depends on whether your disc actually has protection layers—is finding software specifically designed to rip protected CDs or DVDs. There’s bound to be some utility out there that can handle it; if you can successfully burn a clean copy to a blank disc, your laptop should have no trouble reading it. 🙂 Honestly, the worst-case scenario here is just losing a blank CD or DVD. 😁
