Look, I’m not out here hunting for bans or trying to be a snitch, but it really grinds my gears when I get flagged—totally fair, mind you—for stuff like "off-topic" or trolling, yet if you look at on pages 9 and 10, not a single one of those identical posts has been carded. Not even after a mountain of reports. The mods are swamped, sure, and everyone finally reacted once the whole circus died down, but still... not one single card issued for those posts. 🤷I guess the rules are supposed to apply to everyone equally, unless apparently saying "I love you" or "you're awesome" is enough of a free pass to dodge the consequences. 🤷

Shane.. alright, look. :sigh:
My inbox is absolutely flooded with your reports. And I’m sure I’m not the only one dealing with this.
It feels like you’re trying to flag every single microscopic speck of dust on the floor.
Sure, okay... some of these posts are a bit off-topic, but they aren't malicious, nor are they spiraling into ten-post long tangents. Our subreddit isn't actually THAT draconian when it comes to minor deviations.

We want things to stay organized, but we don't want this place to feel like a sterile hospital ward.

Just relax. Take a breath. Go grab a beer.😉

Look, I checked my inbox after being away for a few hours today, and I found fourteen different reports from you—you managed to flag everything in just that short window.
Just because users report a post doesn't mean it’s an automatic violation that warrants some kind of disciplinary action simply because you personally dislike what was said. Beyond that, there are countless variations of off-topic comments; some actually add value and build upon the core discussion, while others don't. So, perhaps it would be easier if you could just 😁

My inbox is absolutely buried with your reports. And honestly, it’s not just mine either.
You're basically reporting every single amoeba for breathing wrong.
Yeah, okay.. sure, some posts are a bit "off," but they aren't malicious or anything, and they aren't ten posts deep. The mods aren't THAT strict about this kind of stuff.

We want things organized, but we don't need this place to turn into a sterile hospital ward.

Just chill out. Take a breath. Grab a beer.😉

Man, honestly, it doesn't even bother me... I actually kind of prefer this style, but I was just asking since I got flagged for the exact same nonsense.
I'm not trying to get anyone banned or anything, but I guess I'm just one of those people who gets defensive when I feel like I'm being picked on.

I don't drink alcohol 😛
I'm always chill 😍

Just because people start reporting posts doesn't mean they’re actually breaking the rules or deserve a ban just because you personally can't stand them. Plus, there are tons of ways to go off-topic; some stuff actually adds value to the conversation while other junk doesn't—so maybe just try to 😁

chill out a bit.

Those weren't off-topic, obviously—anyone reading this with half a brain can see that—but whatever.

I can't exactly make it "easier" than this 😍
.
Alright, alright, relax—I wasn't trying to be a jerk, I was just asking. I'm done reporting people, I'm not some kind of snitch. 😛

I'm not out here trying to get anyone banned or anything; it’s just my nature to be a bit of a smart-ass when I feel like I'm being unfairly targeted.

I don't drink alcohol 😛
I'm always pretty laid back 😍

Hoy, I wouldn't even want to see what you're like when you aren't feeling relaxed.😁

You basically have the highest tally of warnings for trolling or insults, which is a pretty distinct category from off-topic posts or spam, isn't it? 😉

Exactly what she said.

Besides, I don't see any heavy-handedness here. Honestly, the mods have been cleaning up the chat and the off-topic sections more aggressively lately than they have in a while.

Plus, about that example you brought up—that kind of topic naturally pulls in sub-topics. It’s just an extension of the main conversation, which spills over into this page and the next.

The thing is, some people were given a bit of breathing room to wander off-topic. Instead of handing out red cards to seven or eight users for a tiny bit of off-topic chatter—which was actually pretty friendly and mostly fit the theme anyway—they just posted a warning. And boom, everyone stopped immediately.

rustywalker17 said:Those weren't, honestly—it’s quite obvious to anyone looking at this objectively, but I suppose it doesn't matter.

Not exactly, if you consider that the five of us didn't even react to it. 😁 Furthermore, certain off-topic threads get wiped entirely, which isn't something you can actually see; all you notice are the moderation markers left on the remaining posts. Even those flagged posts often vanish altogether, and so on, et cetera. 😉

Nah, I’m always chill... that’s just how I roll... even when I react intensely, I'm not actually worked up... because, you know, Arguing over the internet is like running in the Special Olympics.....

I've got 2 active strikes for trolling and 1 for spam... I used to be a jerk back in the day, but I'm a saint now. 😍

dustyranger64 said:What she said.

Anyway, there hasn't been any massive crackdown; the mods have actually been cleaning up the chat and the forums more aggressively lately than they have in a while.

Plus, the example you brought up—that kind of topic naturally pulls in sub-topics and side discussions, so the stuff on this page and the next is just an extension of that.

It feels like people were given enough breathing room to wander a bit off-track, and instead of handing out warnings to 7 or 8 users for some minor off-topic banter that was actually well-intentioned and mostly fit the vibe of the thread, there was a warning posted telling everyone to pipe down, and they immediately stopped..

Look, I wasn't trying to call anyone out, seriously... I was just asking... it felt stupid to me because it's obvious that people who are overweight and people who are skinny (roughly speaking) are never going to agree, but those comments about what people eat were blatant proof of having zero grasp of basic nutrition. My comment in bold is a total LOL. They had already stopped hours before. 😁

Chloe Green61 said:Clearly not, if none of the five of us reacted to it. 😁 Besides, some off-topic posts get deleted, and you can't actually see that—you just see the warnings on the posts that stay up; often, even flagged posts get wiped, etc., etc. 😉

Of course, but I still asked... everything I read while I was typing is still right there, but as for those 'certain' posts that might have been deleted, I wouldn't know. 👍

rustywalker17 said:Look, I wasn't trying to call anyone out, seriously... I was just asking. It felt weird, you know? Like, it’s common sense that people who are overweight and people who are thin aren't going to see eye-to-eye on everything. But those comments about what they eat were just straight-up proof that they didn't understand basic nutrition. My comment was basically just a LOL. They had been posting for hours before 😁

Aha, so you started a thread in the Complaints section just to ask questions—not because there's an actual issue, but because you can't wrap your head around why other people don't get what you're seeing?

Some folks really have way too much free time 🤦

Voyager 1 posted several times in the 45 minutes before I dropped the warning. If that feels like "hours" to you, then hey, go ahead and LOL all you want.

rustywalker17 said:Of course, but I still asked... everything I read while I was writing is still there. Some of it might have been deleted for "certain people," I don't know. 👍

And they're staying.

The warning is out. The posts stay up because that's my call as a moderator. Maybe some people will actually learn something from them, and the next person who tries to jump on that bandwagon is getting a strike or a ban.

EOD on my part.

Some people seriously have way too much time on their hands 🤦

Voyager 1 posted four times in the forty-five minutes before I dropped the warning. If that feels like hours to you, then hey, go ahead and LOL all you want.

And they're staying up.

The warning was issued, and those posts are staying because that's my judgment call as a moderator. Some people might actually learn something from them, and whoever tries to pile onto them next is going to get a strike or a ban.

EOD on my part.

Look, I get that you feel like you're the one being singled out most, but that doesn't bother me... you've always had your own weird, let's call it "Southern" way of looking at things... whatever, suit yourself.

It's a problem, sure, but not enough for me to start some massive blowout fight over a forum, so just chill...

Honestly, it caught me off guard—that sharp attitude totally froze my blood for a second, which is why I bailed. But also, it kind of cheered me up, because it wasn't even official yet... I laid out my side of things, and if you want to back the underdogs while they're busy trashing the girls with more to offer, fine... whatever works for you.

peace

As my colleague pointed out—and you seem to be struggling to grasp this yourself—it all comes down to moderator discretion. Just because you feel certain that a post warrants deletion or a formal sanction doesn't mean it actually does. It certainly doesn't mean we have to align with your perspective, agree that your view is the sole "objective" truth, or accept that we are obligated to penalize every single flagged comment. We aren't robots programmed to follow your lead.
You’re convinced they need to be scrubbed, but we aren't, and frankly, that's a total no-brainer. 🤷

Chloe Green61 said:Like my colleague said—and you know it too—it’s all about moderator discretion. Just because you think someone deserves to be banned or have their post nuked doesn't mean we have to agree with your take, or that your "objective" opinion is the law of the land. We aren't obligated to jump every time you report something and hand out punishments like candy.
You're convinced they need to go, but we aren't, so it's a total no-brainer. 🤷

What is actually wrong with you people?? I'm not trying to push anything... I told you guys a few times already, I was just asking.

My judgment is mine alone... and I didn't even really lay it all out there... I was just asking if the rules apply to everyone equally—half-joking, mind you—but you all immediately went full serious mode on me for no reason.

And the whole thing blew up because of this:

Chloe Green61 says:
Look, I checked my inbox after a few hours today and saw 14 reports from you, all sent within that same tiny window.
Just because users flag posts doesn't mean those posts are automatically violations that need a hammer dropped on them just because you don't like them. Plus, there are tons of ways to go off-topic; some stuff adds value to the conversation, some doesn't—so maybe just chill out a bit.

And it's not like I'm actually demanding (God forbid) anything from you guys... LOL

Cheers to you mods, I guess. 🙏🙏

rustywalker17 said:What is wrong with you people? Honestly, I’m not accusing anyone... I’ve said this several times already, I was merely asking a question.

It was simply my own assessment—one which I hadn't even officially presented yet. I was just asking, half-jokingly, if the rules applied equally to everyone, and suddenly everyone turns dead serious on me. It's quite a reaction.

So, cheers to the mods, I suppose. 🙏🙏

You’ve gone ahead and reported every single post in that thread. Typically, when someone hits the report button, it implies they believe a rule has been broken or some kind of disciplinary action is warranted. You're also the one who filed the formal grievance regarding the site's policy relaxations, which brings us back to the core issue: who among us is actually being serious here? It's worth a moment of reflection.

Chloe Green61 said:Not exactly, I mean—if the five of us didn't even bother to react to it, then it clearly doesn't matter. 😁 Plus, some off-topic threads just vanish into thin air—and you don't even get a heads-up. You can't actually see what's being nuked; all you're left with is looking at the remaining posts and seeing those little moderation icons floating there. It’s super glitchy, too, because sometimes even the posts that already got flagged or marked get wiped out entirely. Just total chaos, honestly. 😉

Chloe Green61 said:Man, you’ve been reporting every single damn post in this thread. And let's be real—when you hit that report button, you're basically saying the post breaks the rules or deserves some kind of slap on the wrist. On top of all that, you're the same guy who filed the grievance about the moderation team being way too soft. So, what are we actually even talking about here? So, let's settle this once and for all—who among us actually has their act together? Seriously, let's take a moment to ask ourselves: who’s being the real adult here?.

You guys are just... honestly, you’re something else. In every single way possible.🙂

Look, I’ve already said everything there is to say about this... I flagged it because they were straight-up breaking the rules—simple as that. But apparently, the mods think it’s "fine" to let violations slide because it supposedly keeps the conversation going or whatever. Give me a break.

I’m just totally disarmed here. Honestly.

rustywalker17 said:I filed a report because they were clearly breaking the rules, but apparently, the moderator's take is that it’s a "productive" violation that actually helps keep the conversation going.

No, the official verdict is that no rules were broken at all.

I give up 🙂
