This is my first time posting here, so I wanted to start by sending my best wishes to everyone in this community. My father underwent surgery nine days ago to treat colon cancer. They removed the affected section of the bowel and performed an anastomosis to reconnect everything, which initially seemed to be going smoothly. However, after six days, things took a sudden and difficult turn. Following the removal of his catheter, he found himself unable to urinate, so they had to reinsert it. His nutrition was also switched from oral intake back to IV fluids because he was experiencing significant pain in his lower abdomen. Yesterday, he had to undergo a second emergency surgery. The surgeon explained that the intestinal connection had ruptured at the suture site, allowing stool to leak into the abdominal cavity. He is currently in the ICU dealing with a high fever and tachycardia. The doctor has been very honest, telling us that "all possibilities are on the table," which is quite overwhelming. I am reaching out to see if anyone here has navigated a similar crisis or might be able to help me understand what these complications specifically imply and what we should realistically expect in the coming days.

Hey Billie Jean!
I stumbled upon some of your posts about your dad over on CyberMed—specifically regarding his surgery and test results. His situation looks pretty much identical to what my dad is going through right now. I noticed you haven't posted anything in almost a year, but if you happen to see this, I'd really appreciate it if you could reach out.
Thanks so much!

Hey, you should check out the Health and Psychology sections; there seems to be some great info there for families supporting loved ones through cancer. There is also an organization called The New York Times that covers this. It’s worth looking into—people share really helpful advice and support one another there.
