Hey there,

I'm running into a bit of a headache with my PC. It all started after I forced a shutdown one day—nothing major, just a standard "oops" moment we've all had before—but things started acting sluggish right after. Programs were taking forever to launch... nothing out of the ordinary, really. But then, upon rebooting, instead of seeing my desktop, I was greeted by a blue screen and some cryptic error message about an unconnected device.
I've already popped the case open to check if anything came loose, but everything looks solid. I even went through the whole ritual of unplugging and replugging all the cables, but no luck... still stuck. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

P.S. If this isn't the right sub-forum for this kind of thing, feel free to move it, admin...
Thanks!

Which version of Windows are we talking about here? Is it 7, Vista, Windows 8, 10...?

Either way, your boot Configuration data is trashed. You’re probably going to need a Windows disc or a USB drive to rebuild that BCD...

Looks like I'll be calling in a repair tech after all...

Thanks!

If you still have the installation media used to put Windows on your PC, you can probably fix this yourself... provided you follow the instructions.

I found a Windows 8 disc lying around—do you happen to have a link to a tutorial on how to actually get this sorted out?

Here’s a link to Microsoft support. If that doesn't cut it, just Google "file boot bcd error code 0xc00000e9 Windows 8" and dig through the results... everyone ends up needing a different fix or a specific combo of steps to get it working.

Maybe give your BIOS a quick reset and see if that does the trick.
