Cooling solutions for external HDDs

So, I’ve got these two 2TB WD MyBook external drives that are basically permanently tethered to my PC. But here’s the thing—we recently brought home a tiny kitten, and let me tell you, this little creature is a chaotic menace. She’s constantly leaping all over the furniture, and now I’m sitting here low-key panicking about how to protect my drives before she decides to swat them right off the desk.
I was thinking maybe I could just tuck them away in a desk drawer and run the cables through some routing in the back, but then I started wondering... do these external drives actually need a ton of airflow to stay cool? Or am I just overthinking it?
Does anyone have a smarter way to handle this without losing my mind?

What if you just laid them out, stacked them one on top of the other, and secured the whole mess with some duct tape?

External drives don't really need much airflow, though they can get pretty warm. You could stick them in a drawer, or maybe just try to squeeze them inside your PC case.

Thanks, everyone. I'm working with an iMac here, so shoving them inside a case isn't exactly on the table—not like I have extra slots in there, haha. I might try a drawer, but honestly, since day one, they've just been lying flat and stuck right to the desk. It’s worked okay so far, I guess.🙂

So, any chance you could teach your cat to stop treating your dining table like its own personal runway? - now!
