When I first caught that trailer, I honestly thought this might be a classy way for him to ride off into the sunset, especially with that Ennio Morricone score playing in the background.

Sadly, if it weren't a Clint Eastwood flick, you could probably catch this playing on PBS at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. It’s a pretty thin plot that we've all seen a thousand times before. The whole "heroic adventure" vibe feels about as naive as reading a Hardy Boys mystery. If you aren't a die-hard fan, don't even bother.

The Tough Guy.

I don't think I can bring myself to watch it (even though he's my all-time favorite actor). His last few films have been such a tough pill to swallow, and I just don't want to see him looking this old...

Whenever I see someone absolutely tearing a film apart, it immediately triggers an intense urge in me to go watch it myself.👍

He’s gonna eat them anyway, so why not just do it out of pure spite...

The trailer looks pretty pathetic, but I guess they went for that vibe thinking it would grab some attention.

The real issue here is that, in my opinion, Clint just can't pull off this kind of melodrama. He has his limits when it comes to being overly emotional while still keeping the movie grounded, much like he did in Unforgiven. If you make it too sappy, it just doesn't work—he’s simply not that kind of actor.

I took a look at the list of people who weren't fans of The Tough Guy—which, personally, I actually thought was pretty solid—but this one? It’s easily two steps below that.
It’s basically just a road movie mixed with some drama; there isn't much tension or high stakes, even though he and the kid are constantly on the run and dodging the people hunting them down.
It feels kind of formulaic to me, which honestly isn't surprising when you consider the lead is a 91-year-old legend acting as the producer, director, AND star. Massive respect to him for still grinding this hard at his age, but maybe it’s finally time to hang it up and relax a bit.

If you want my rating, it’s a lukewarm 5/10. It does have a few sweet moments tucked in the middle involving a widow and her family, but that's about it.

The cash is good.

So, there’s this scene where he pulls over to help an African American couple whose car died on them. While he’s busy hooking up the jumper cables to get them going, he starts dropping "negro" into the conversation. The guy he's helping just looks at him and says that word hasn't been used in polite conversation for a long, long time. And his response? He just goes, "I guess I must be old."

That’s definitely on my watchlist. I guess Clint in the original version is always a winner for me.

So, I finally sat down and watched it tonight... if you're the type of person who nitpicks every little thing, you're gonna have some gripes about the plot holes and how the story flows...
I mean, look, maybe Clint’s perspective—being an older guy now—just isn't focused on those tiny "details" like it used to be. That said, the GT stuff is top-tier and Mula holds his own just fine enough.

But here's the thing... there's this one line in the movie where he's talking to the kid about all the crazy stuff he's done in his life—stuff that looks totally pointless looking back... and how being "macho" is really just an ego trip that doesn't mean squat. To paraphrase him: "A man spends years not understanding a damn thing, and by the time he figures it out, it's already too late." Then, at the end, he's dancing and hugging that woman... whether it's too late or not, that's the only part that actually matters.

In that sense, it’s actually a weirdly romantic flick. It's nostalgic, sure, because the lead character—just like us watching him—is painfully aware of how much time has slipped away. But it’s also kind of comforting, like he’s saying there’s still a "chance" even when the end is right around the corner.
Even though Clint has always been okay with a little romance or lyrical moments, I think he’s specifically picking stories that mirror his own way of looking at life...

If you're just looking for something shallow, don't bother with this one.

The trailer gives off some pretty dull drama vibes, so I’m definitely skipping this one. Honestly, Clint should have hung it up a decade ago. Jack Nicholson, who’s actually seven years younger than Clint, had the sense to retire ten years back. It would have been the smart move.

Honestly, I’d say Perfect World might actually be his best work, mostly because Clint isn't carrying the whole thing on his back.

It even manages to be funny, which is wild considering the movie is about a tragedy that really didn't need to happen in the first place.

But hey, that was all thirty years ago.

I don't buy that about Jack Nicholson losing his grip or dealing with dementia.
As far as I can tell, Clint is doing just fine. Sure, he looks his age physically, but his mind is clearly still sharp as a tack.
Now, whether he *should* be acting at this stage? That's a different conversation...
But really, who are we to tell him? Given everything he’s contributed to cinema, if he wants to keep doing what he loves—regardless of how it looks to the rest of us—he should be allowed to.
