I really enjoyed this book. It actually surpassed Gone Girl for me; the pacing is relentless and there isn't a single dull moment.

I have a huge amount of respect for Charlize Theron, but I just can't picture her playing Libby based on how she's portrayed in the book:

I barely hit five feet—technically four-foot-ten, but I round up. I’m thirty-one. My freckles have faded and my teeth are straight now, but my nose is still prominent and my eyes are wide, like a newborn's. My hair is platinum blonde these days, though the red roots are showing through. In the late afternoon sun, it looked like my scalp was bleeding. It had this bloody look to it.

Let's see how they handled it on screen. 🍿

The ending left me disappointed, much like my experience with Gone Girl.

I already downloaded it, so I’ll probably get around to watching it either today or tomorrow. Honestly, when you've got Charlize Theron leading the charge paired with such a gripping subject matter, you just know it's going to be a winner, right? Fingers crossed it turns out to be a total masterpiece!

It was pretty cool seeing Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult together again after Mad Max.
I haven't read the book, but the movie feels way too long for the story it's actually telling (it drags on for almost two hours). I don't know, the whole setup with the struggling mom (Christina Hendricks) almost feels a bit much—like, her luck is so consistently terrible it's almost funny. She's basically broke, raising four kids while dealing with a drunk husband who steals the money she's trying to save for her son's defense; she even skipped college because she had to stay behind to run the family farm. She's a complete wreck, physically and mentally, and SPOILER!—the entire plot kicks off because she decides to hire a hitman to kill her so her kids can collect the life insurance. But obviously, everything goes sideways, and two of her daughters end up dying that same night. Like, the sheer amount of bad luck here is just too damn high.

Overall, it's boring in spots, kind of hard to believe sometimes, and the pacing is just slow and drawn out...

The movie is a disaster. I can't believe how dull and lifeless everything felt, especially since they had so much source material to work with. I know people say that all the time, but this film just doesn't touch the book.

They really should have let the author handle the screenplay again; she did such an incredible job with GG. Some of the characters were so deeply developed in the novel—like Libby's mother or Ben—but here, they barely exist. You don't even get the sense that Ben is much of an outsider. Everything feels rushed, making it impossible to actually connect with anyone. The scenes fly by so fast that you never truly grasp what those "Dark Places" are supposed to represent. It’s monotonous, hollow, and frantic all at once.

Honestly, I'm just disappointed.

Watched this movie today. It was good. I actually avoided reading the book first, which was a smart move—it allowed me to stay fully immersed in the plot and genuinely curious about how it would all wrap up. The time flew by and it kept me entertained. There are a few spots where the pacing drags slightly, but overall, it's a solid 7/10. 👍 The soundtrack was also quite strong. Highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't touched the book yet!

It’s alright, but it could have been better. It’s a decent enough watch if you catch it once. Kind of like when you stumble upon a solid movie on Netflix late at night and just decide to roll with it.

Boring movie. Zero tension. I almost never use FF this much.🥱

I caught it yesterday; it wasn't half bad. I'd give it a 7/10.
