Can anyone who knows anything about Escherichia coli please weigh in? My mother-in-law ended up in the hospital because of it... damn. It was isolated from a wound on her hip, and she didn't say a word for a long time before things turned critical. She had to have emergency surgery to remove dead tissue—gangrene, basically. The doctor said he was literally draining pus by hand... The infection is still spreading. They've got her on Gentamicin and something that sounded like Bromicyn, though I couldn't catch the exact name. She’s allergic to penicillin.

So I’ve got this E. coli thing in my urinary tract. Seriously, I’ve been cycling through every antibiotic under the sun for six months straight—zero results. The whole stinging sensation every time I pee is just brutal. Finally, the doctors basically told me to just chug a ton of water and call it a day. And guess what? I’m still dealing with this mess... :/

hm, as far as I recall, E. coli is actually a standard part of the normal gut flora, but things get messy when it starts showing up in other spots—like wounds or the urinary tract...
it falls under the streptococcus group....
and look, if you're dealing with gangrene... you might want to try finding a different antibiotic with a similar mechanism, while making sure to clean and disinfect the wound regularly.

It isn't just about hydration; you also need to cut out spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, cocoa, and sugar.

I'm totally done with that stuff.
Staying hydrated helps, though. If I can make it 2 or 3 hours without hitting the restroom, I'm golden.
But man, having to lug a water bottle everywhere just to constantly sprint to the bathroom... what a drag.

Well, just figure out a way to drink more when you're at home; hitting a liter and a half a day shouldn't be much of a struggle, should it?

Lately, I've been testing positive for Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis at a level of 10^3. My doctor maintains that no treatment is necessary... yet I am still experiencing this persistent burning sensation. I am requesting an answer from someone with actual expertise regarding the potential consequences for my body if I choose not to treat these bacteria. Thank you in advance. Mirna

Is it really just a matter of the burning sensation? Or more importantly—why was a USA culture even ordered in the first place?
Did you get a urinalysis done too?
Honestly, for now, I'm inclined to agree with your doctor.
