Hi there. I've been wondering—is polymyositis contagious? My boyfriend went through treatment for it and he's doing fine now, but lately, I can't seem to catch a break. For the last couple of months, at least once every two weeks, I end up running a low fever around 99 or 100 degrees, and my body aches so much I can barely move. 😢 He mentioned that this was how his symptoms first started for him. 😢😢 That’s about it. If anyone knows anything about this condition, I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks.

It’s honestly impossible to give you a straight answer to that question because polymyositis is just a descriptive term—it basically just means your muscles are inflamed, which tells us nothing about what actually triggered it... it could be anything from an autoimmune response or chemical exposure to genetics, a virus, bacteria, fungi, or even some underlying metabolic disorder...

So, look, if his issues were kicked off by something like a virus, then yeah, there is absolutely a chance you could catch it, especially since there are so many different types of myotropic viruses out there...
