Dealing with Salmonella?

Hey everyone, I could really use some advice...
I’ve been digging through a few different threads about Salmonella, but I haven't really found anything super helpful, so I figured I'd just start my own topic here—(sorry, mods, please don't ban me!).

So, basically, last Sunday I came down with some pretty nasty diarrhea, stomach cramps, and this weird dizzy feeling. I also had a bit of a fever—around 99.5°F—that would dip back to normal and then just pop right back up again. I jumped straight onto one of those bland diets you're supposed to follow when you have an upset stomach, and luckily, the symptoms cleared up by Wednesday. I did go ahead and get a stool sample tested, and I just got the results back today... it's Salmonella.

So, now I have a few questions spinning in my head.
Since I can't get in to see my doctor immediately, I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out...
I'm assuming Salmonella can be spread through kissing, but I'm wondering how long I'll actually be contagious? Like, when will it be safe to go back to being affectionate with my boyfriend? We've been playing it safe for the last seven days and avoided kissing just in case, which—looking back—was probably a smart move.
Also, do you think I need to stick to that bland diet again?
And how long should I wait before needing to get another stool test to make sure it's totally gone?

A kiss? Come on...🙂...you probably picked up salmonella from some contaminated food—maybe eggs, meat, or milk—so now you just have to be super careful about hygiene, especially after hanging out with WCA, because if your hands aren't clean, you could spread that salmonella to everyone else. It's all about handwashing, not a kiss.

Once you finish the treatment you were prescribed, you'll need three consecutive negative stool tests before they can officially say you're cleared and no longer a risk to anyone around you.

I know I didn't catch salmonella from a kiss, but I was actually wondering if it's possible to pass it on to someone else that way? Maybe I phrased things a bit weirdly before and it wasn't super clear what I was getting at 🙂

Go ahead and kiss to your heart's content... you definitely won't be passing salmonella through kissing... unless, well... let's just say if there aren't some certain kind of acrobatics involved that are probably too NSFW for this forum... then you're golden.😍

Just a few quick thoughts from the ID doc on duty here...😉
Basically, Salmonella is a zoonotic thing—meaning it's a disease humans pick up from animals.
Unless you’re dealing with toddlers, you aren't going to catch it just by being near someone who's sick. Since Salmonella isn't exactly a super aggressive pathogen for us, you need a massive dose of those germs to actually get hit. That's why it has to breed in contaminated food first... eggs or custard pastries sitting out for a few hours are basically its perfect playground. And honestly, finding it in eggs is pretty common because chickens are carrying it all over the place these days, passing the bacteria right into the shells. So, stay far away from unverified stuff... those sketchy roadside stands or small-scale farms without any oversight...

Bottom line? Hug your friends all you want, you won't pass Salmonella through a hug. But on the flip side, until you get a clean test result back, maybe don't volunteer to cook for anyone else. Better safe than sorry...

I just joined this group to say that I also ended up with salmonella from Baschiera over on Horvaćanska about ten days ago, specifically after having that Canadian pizza with an egg on top😠.
I didn't really have the strength to call them myself, so a friend did it for me. The big issue is whether I actually have the receipt—since without it, you can't really prove you got sick there. And yeah, I guess I do, because, as if to spite my stomach, I hadn't eaten anything from Sunday afternoon until Monday morning besides maybe some fruit or something.
I don't have the receipt, though; I mean, who in their right mind keeps one? Plus, my friend was the one who treated us to lunch.
So, I’d definitely recommend staying far away from that restaurant.
Oh, and get this—the "manager" claims they've never had a single case of food poisoning before. But reading this, it seems like a totally different story.
It feels like you're just helpless against that kind of machine. You barely make it out alive.
