I've been dealing with tonsillitis issues forever, but honestly, this past month has been a total nightmare—my tonsils are constantly swollen and just straight-up painful... but here’s the weird part: I don't have a fever or any of those other typical infection symptoms. Even my blood work looks fine, like my ESR levels are totally normal. I actually asked my doctor a while back if I should just get them surgically removed, but she shot me down immediately—said she wouldn't recommend the procedure because I don't have an enlarged spleen or anything like that. So, anyway, what am I supposed to do about these tonsils being permanently inflamed and hurting like hell? Over the last month, I've knocked back a dose of Erythromycin and one Azithromycin, which seemed to clear the inflammation up for a bit... btw, I can't touch Augmentin because I'm allergic as hell.

What’s the actual issue here? Why are your tonsils hurting?

Do you have any allergies?
Is it a sinus problem?
Have you been drinking soda?

That’s really the million-dollar question, isn't it? Honestly, I’ve got a penicillin allergy—but I haven't touched the stuff in over a decade, so that's a non-issue now. Other than that, my sinuses have been perfectly fine my whole life and I don't even touch soda... so there's really nothing to point to.

They’re likely painful because they're probably inflamed.
I’ve dealt with tonsillitis quite a few times myself, and I never actually ran a fever. I would feel perfectly fine—no sneezing, no runny nose, no coughing, no fever, and no headaches (those are the symptoms I usually get when I have a common cold, a virus, or the flu).

Once I was prescribed an antibiotic, I just went ahead with my normal routine, whether it was heading to school or work, and it cleared right up. One time, it took three courses of antibiotics to fully get over it, but I recovered eventually.

Yeah, but here's the kicker—I've already burned through three boxes of Erythromycin and an entire pack of Sumamed... and honestly? Nothing. Not a single bit of improvement...

Honestly, I’m struggling with the same thing... It all started back in college when I realized it was purely stress-induced. Whenever I'm caught in a crunch—tight deadlines, overwhelming responsibilities, you name it—my tonsils decide to flare up. I’ve cycled through everything from Amoxicillin to Augmentin—basically the whole pharmacy shelf—but it feels like my body just stopped responding altogether. This past summer, I dealt with it four separate times in just ten weeks (!!) so I finally decided enough is enough and scheduled surgery for January. I’m itching to get it over with, though I have to admit, being 25 and facing this makes me a little nervous—I've heard the recovery can be a real beast..
Keeping my fingers crossed for you, but I’ve also heard that sometimes these things just clear up on their own—they come and go whenever they feel like it.
