Death on the Nile (2020)

I thought this book was fantastic, maybe even better than Murder on the Orient Express. Kenneth Branagh is truly a top-tier actor, but no one will ever portray Hercule Poirot as perfectly or authentically as David Suchet.

Really? I'm not a fan of Kenneth. He was fine in Potter, but that's about it. His Poirot just grates on me—too much overacting, too much affectation. It feels like he's turning the character into a caricature.
So, what happened to that creep, did they cut him from the movie or what?

A terrible Poirot. Both his performance and the film itself.

I haven't seen Potter, but his Henry V is perhaps the best Shakespeare adaptation I've ever seen.
Even Hamlet isn't bad—even if Gibson makes him look a bit rough here—but I suppose I can forgive him anything because of Henry.

Those whiskers are a total disaster.

The creep wasn't cut from the film. Arnold was there just to brighten things up with his presence. Who would've thought such a good-looking guy turned out to be such a sick individual? Assuming everything written about him is true, obviously.🤦

Well, that's just how Poirot is, though... I mean, Albert Finney really nailed that vibe, and even Agatha herself said that was probably the most accurate portrayal of the character ever. Poirot is just an inherently irritating guy...

Death on the Nile is easily my favorite book, and I’ve always found the film version where David Suchet plays Hercule Poirot to be quite good. The trailer looks decent enough, though I suppose I shouldn't get my hopes up too high. Unfortunately, it feels like political correctness is once again undermining the integrity of the film. From what I can see, about half the cast consists of people of color, which is a bit of a stretch when you consider the story is set at the dawn of the 20th century. Besides, they did such a terrible job with Murder on the Orient Express that I have every reason to be skeptical about this one, but I suppose I'll watch it regardless.

Has anyone had a chance to catch Death on the Nile in theaters yet? I'm wondering if it actually holds up, or if it’s just on par with how Murder on the Orient Express turned out. I guess the real question is whether it's even worth the price of a ticket.

I’m sitting here watching this absolute train wreck of a movie. Honestly, Agatha Christie is probably spinning in her grave right now.
Kenneth Branagh is a terrible Poirot; his version completely lacks any shred of charisma or wit, and let's be real, part of what makes Poirot work is that sense of humor. They butchered the characters, they messed with the plot, and the pacing is just mind-numbing. And don't even get me started on Gal Gadot—she was a total miss for this role. Her Linnet comes across as insecure and weak, which is nowhere near how the character should be. Even Salome Ottoborn's character was totally ruined, turned into some singer when that isn't who she is; I have no idea how anyone could take such a brilliant character and wreck it like this (Angela Langsbury was absolutely perfect in the 1978 film). And since when does nobody hate Linnet? Why is everyone acting like her wedding party?! The music is dull, the story is dull, and the characters are just plain boring.

I'm turning this disaster off at the 48-minute mark.

Every time he shows up on screen, I can practically hear him doing those cringey YouTube videos like, "hello you million awakening souls." It's honestly painful. Like, who hired him and why? The guy has zero acting range; he's basically a wooden plank. Plus, the whole mystery is just tedious and exhausting. By the end, you don't even care who did it or what their motive was. The only redeeming quality here is Gal Gadot.

The movie is just mediocre. It couldn't have been any better, honestly, because political correctness completely stripped away its potential, yet even at this level, it still manages not to be quite as bad as Murder on the Orient Express.

First off, what really bugs me is that they didn't even shoot at any authentic locations—it was all done in the United Kingdom. Supposedly a few bits were filmed in Africa, but without the actors present. For the most part? It’s just heavy CGI.🤦The landscapes often look like they were pulled straight out of some cheap children's fairy tale about princes and princesses.😵I'm not saying it isn't pretty, but in this instance, I'm just not feeling it.

Look, I can handle CGI when we're talking about big sci-fi action spectacles, but an adaptation of an Agatha Christie mystery? No thanks, that's just not my thing.☕

This is a movie made for the younger crowd—the ones who haven't actually read Agatha and haven't bothered watching the classics. Sure... they'll probably be happy enough.👍

I guess Branagh actually managed to make something even worse than Murder on the Orient Express. Maybe this is his last Poirot film? Honestly, I think we've had enough.

Is there any mention of America? In Suchet's version, they brought up Indianapolis.

I'm skipping this movie—not that I'm the first one to say so. For me, David Suchet is the one and only Hercule Poirot. Honestly, based on the trailer, I think Branagh is going to be pretty terrible.

Just finished watching this on Disney+. It’s a mediocre flick, fine if you just need something to kill a Wednesday night. Gal once again proves she's a stunning woman, but a pretty terrible actress.

To get ready for this, I actually went back and watched the original version. It’s a solid movie—great acting, and it really captures that specific 1930s vibe in Egypt where you had all that old-school aristocracy heading out on excursions. But here? That’s just gone. Honestly, I have no clue what era the filmmakers were aiming for, but it definitely isn't the one they should have been hitting... Of course, every BlackRock film or series nowadays is just packed with woke details, and I guess this one is no exception. Once this whole madness finally blows over, there’ll probably be an entire movement in art history dedicated to studying the woke crusade... or should I say, the woke crusade...

I honestly hope they only made this to check some box in a contract and then call it quits.
The acting is straight-up garbage. The plot? Total snooze fest. Most of the movie is just cheap green screen, and whatever isn't digital feels so fake and out of place for the era it's set in that it completely kills the vibe.

Suchet's TV episodes had way smaller budgets, yet somehow they look better and feel more polished. Plus, the actors actually have an ounce of charm, unlike this Hollywood celebrity trash we got here.
