Dell XPS 13 battery issues

Hello. I recently purchased a new Dell XPS 13 with a 4K touchscreen... the top-tier model. However, I am quite disappointed with the battery life. During intensive tasks like web browsing, data transfers, or software installations, it only lasts about 3 hours. It reaches 4 hours with lighter use. According to the specs, it should be much longer... has anyone else dealt with this? I tried lowering the brightness significantly, which managed to stretch it to 4 hours.

Look, manufacturer testing is done under perfect, sanitized conditions—you know, the kind of laboratory setup that doesn't account for reality. It’s completely expected that those specs won't hold up once you start using the thing in the real world.

Set the resolution to 1080p
4K screens generally drain more juice because of the higher resolution, plus they block more light, so you end up needing much higher brightness just to get the same effect.

Generally speaking, 4K on a laptop isn't the sweet spot, especially on 15" screens or smaller. Very few laptops actually have the optimized hardware and beefy enough batteries to pull it off properly.

And let's be honest, the 2-in-1 isn't exactly a battery life champion anyway.

Also, how old is this laptop? Used or brand new? If it's used, well, whatever—batteries aren't what they used to be once they've been through some use...

On my Surface Pro with similar specs (same generation Intel processor, similar battery, but a 1080p screen), I was getting maybe 6-8 hours at first with very light use, sometimes pushing to 10. Now? It's down to about half of that.
