Hey everyone... so my grandma just got her pacemaker put in and she's finally back home. My mom is stressing out big time about what she should actually be eating—like, what's on the menu and what's strictly off-limits? We tried doing a quick Google search, but honestly, most of it is just vague fluff. We already know the whole "watch the salt intake" thing, obviously, but if anyone has some actual, real-world advice on specific foods that are good for her... or even stuff to stay away from beyond just salt... let us know.
Thanks so much!!!!!!

My kid is searching online for heart disease diets. You’ve got to keep blood fats under control, and blood pressure too—that comes down to meds. Since you have to cut out the salt, just load up on spices to make things actually taste good. Stick to rye bread, though I really hope they're making it without added sodium.
Ditch all the deep-fried junk. Forget frying stuff in oil. Use a foil packet instead—think of how great a Perdue chicken packet tastes. Get rid of heavy gravies and anything fried in oil, too. There's research coming out showing that statins (those cholesterol drugs) can have some nasty side effects, so don't just hand them over to Grandma (even if our doctors here at the Mayo Clinic still prescribe them like crazy).
Drink plenty of fluids and eat tons of fruits and veggies, preferably raw or lightly cooked.
For supplements, I’d recommend Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.
Red rice extract is killer for cholesterol. Also, burdock root tea is excellent for detoxing, lowering cholesterol, and cleaning out the liver—which is where everything starts.

Google these terms: "heart healthy diet," "cardiac diet," or whatever.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Honestly, let her eat whatever she wants just like she always has, because you really don't want to stress her out—or yourselves—with unnecessary "dieting" right now. There’s no such thing as a special "pacemaker diet," so there's no need to go hunting for one.
Yeah, keeping the sodium down is fine and all those standard health tips are great, but if Grandma really wants to sit down to a plate of BBQ ribs or some bacon and onions... well, it's not going to hurt her.

She doesn't need some strict diet—she should just eat normally. The key is avoiding excessive salt or heavy spices; sticking to boiled meats rather than grilled is probably better...
