DivX player issues

I’m looking into getting an external hard drive.
Something I could use to store all my DIVX files
and just plug directly into the TV
so I can play movies and clips easily
without wasting a bunch of money on blank DVDs
just to burn them and run them through a DVD player...
Can anyone give me some more info on
this setup?

I just realized you could hook that external hard drive up to one of those media players
the kind that plugs right into your TV
Does anyone know where I can find one of those without getting ripped off?
Like, maybe for under five hundred bucks?
