Looking at these five pages, it’s pretty obvious the mod was one of the first to get crude and start trolling—check that post about Vienna. On top of that, they didn't do a damn thing to stop the insults from unknown and Guga, or even the people calling newcomers "nothing more than neighbors to sheep." Actually, Guga got a pass—the mod even wrote "Way to go, Guga"—even though his posts insult me personally by calling my thoughts "simplistic," labeling me a jerk, and dismissing everything I say as "stupidity."

Since it's clear as day that the mod, DJ Khaled, is biased and hasn't been acting like a decent role model—even joining in on the spamming and trolling himself—I think punishing the users was totally wrong and unfair.
So, here's my suggestion: void all the warnings and just reopen the thread after cleaning it up.
That way we can actually keep talking without all this "bad blood" and everyone starts back on equal footing.

As it stands, nothing's been solved—it's just made things even more tense.
Just for the record, I warned both him and the other participants to cut out the vulgarity so we could keep the discussion chill and respectful.

I definitely agree that this is actually directed at the mods and/or admins, and there was honestly no need to wait for me. It’s the weekend, after all—time to get out, breathe some fresh air, and hang out with my family and friends. To be perfectly honest, dealing with someone's grievances is pretty much at the very bottom of my priority list and interest level. However, since the administration politely asked me to weigh in, and I wasn't planning on chiming in regardless, I'll just lay out a few facts. I have zero desire to sit here lamenting, arguing, or—heaven forbid—getting into a back-and-forth spat:

- Yes, I was vulgar and crude in certain parts. I know I can be that way on the forum sometimes, and you might ask: what does that actually change? Honestly, nothing. As for my little dig about Vienna and the graffiti there, it was strictly within the context of the topic. I wasn't attacking anyone or trying to troll; it was just an illustration. It might qualify as indirect off-topic chatter, but there is a massive difference between that and trolling.

- In my opinion, all the posts that deserved them were sanctioned. You claim those two specific ones weren't, but if you look at the thread and all the warnings, they clearly were. There were others too, stemming from unconstructive arguments.

- Anyone who actually wants to grasp the essence and point of this discussion will understand that when I said "bravo unknown!", I was referring to the merit of the actual points made regarding the topic. It was about taking a stand and forming an opinion. It had nothing to do with that side comment about you and your "simple view." Generally speaking, people come to this forum to discuss the subject matter, not individual personalities and their egos, and my reactions reflect that. If you can't see or understand that—well, sorry, I feel for you.

- I stand by every single warning issued, including yours. I don't intend to rescind or revise them. As for the thread itself, I'll be reopening it for civilized discussion soon. And by "soon," I mean whenever I decide it's time—maybe today, maybe tomorrow, or whenever I feel like it. Since I'm currently acting as a mod in Washington, D.C., alongside my colleague Clouseau, I'm the one calling the shots on the timing and the approach, and I won't be asking you or anyone else on the forum for permission. If things go off the rails again, I can promise more warnings and other necessary sanctions.
If the mods and admins decide otherwise, then so be it. They'll handle the warnings and reopen the thread whenever THEY want to. They won't be asking anyone—not you, and certainly not me.

- Something was definitely achieved here: we abruptly shut down the level of communication characterized by ad hominem attacks, OT spam, and trolling, which is completely irrelevant to the topic. It seems the people who were sanctioned have accepted it with a clear head, because nobody has come forward with complaints on this thread or on the two other "Questions for Admin" threads on the site. Even the old-timers haven't voiced any concerns, and I won't even name them individually.
Okay, that might not mean anything, or it might mean everything.

- It is the moderator's job to warn participants and control the flow of discussion on this and all other forums. That's a role you haven't stepped into yet—though maybe one day you will, good luck!—and it's something I have done repeatedly. This is how it works, whether you like it or not.

So, that's it from me. We'll talk in the thread if you show up. You're welcome if you come with a clear head, but if not, then not. It doesn't matter to anyone.

Now, you can either accept what I've said or continue your ranting and nitpicking about my attitude, whether I'm being arrogant or not. I'm tossing the ball back into your court. Final amen. Look, if you start acting cheap and vulgar as a moderator, you lose the right to punish anyone else. You didn't discipline yourself, so why should we? It basically sends a signal that this is how we’re supposed to act—which, honestly, seems to be what's happening here.
When I warned that people claiming to defend Washington, D.C. culture shouldn't be the most unrefined bunch around, you actually agreed—and they finally stopped being so crude. That just proves I wasn't playing "power trip moderator," I was just pointing out the obvious.
If you let someone throw ad hominems at the Guggenheim, don't act surprised when I fire one right back at them while still trying to contribute to the actual discussion.
Bottom line: if you’re being vulgar and letting personal attacks slide, you’re just as much to blame, which makes your penalties totally unfair. You could've just locked the thread, wiped the fluff, and reopened it with a formal warning—that would've worked fine.

Now, I'll just wait for the admin to step in...

I’ve been catching up on this whole thread, and honestly, I think the moderators made all the right calls here. They let the conversation flow naturally and kept things open, but the second people started acting like trolls or veering completely off-topic, they stepped in with those warnings. In my opinion, nothing should have been sanctioned earlier than it was, and nothing was punished unfairly. It was handled perfectly.

I’m fully on board with the plan to wipe the warned posts (and maybe even some of the ones that didn't get flagged) and just reset the whole discussion, exactly like the moderator announced.
