I’ve been watching a lot of preseason coverage lately, and I can’t help but feel like the media cycle moves way too fast. Every time a team kicks off camp, it’s like there’s this massive, breathless tension about every single player on the roster.
I remember back in my college days, we’d have these intense practices where half the team was just trying to get their footing, and yet the local papers would act like the season was already won or lost based on who showed up to the first drill. It feels like we’re constantly looking for "signs" of greatness or "warning signs" of failure before the players have even broken a sweat in a real game.
It’s hard to tell who’s actually ready and who is just going through the motions of acclimating to the heat and the schedule. I think we put way too much weight on these early-season updates that don't actually tell us anything meaningful about the long haul.
Is it just me, or is the preseason "status update" era making it harder to actually enjoy the buildup to the real season?
