I was looking back at some of my old sports takes from a couple of years ago, and man, it’s hilarious how often I miss the mark. There’s this weird itch to look way ahead—not just next week, but years down the line—and try to map out exactly how a team is going to evolve. It feels like you're trying to solve a puzzle where half the pieces haven't even been manufactured yet.
I know most people prefer to just play it safe and talk about current rosters or immediate injuries, but I’ve always found the "long-view" stuff more fun. There's a certain thrill in being wildly optimistic or throwing out a crazy scenario that everyone else thinks is impossible. Even if you end up looking like a total clown when the time actually rolls around, it makes the actual season much more interesting to watch.
Do you guys find yourselves making big, sweeping claims about where a program is headed, or do you prefer to stay grounded in the current stats?
