I’ve been watching a lot of preseason rankings and "all-conference" lists lately, and I honestly can't help but feel like they're mostly just guesswork. Every year, certain programs get all the glory and individual accolades before a single snap is even taken, while other teams with actual depth and grit get completely overlooked.
It feels like the media just follows a specific narrative. They pick the big-name stars from the "glamour" schools and ignore the guys who are actually going to be grinding it out in the trenches. I’ve seen plenty of players get snubbed in August only to absolutely dominate the league by November, making those preseason lists look pretty silly in hindsight.
To me, these lists feel more like a way to drum up engagement rather than a serious evaluation of talent. If you aren't a household name by July, you're basically invisible to the pundits.
Does anyone else feel like these preseason honors are just noise, or do you think they actually serve a purpose for the players?
