Drivers for electronic ID card reader

Does anyone have drivers for this piece of junk:

I found the drivers on a CD-ROM, but the noise coming from the CD-ROM sounds more like a grinding sander than a drive. I called the idiots over at Best Buy, and they claimed either the CD-ROM is defective or I damaged the disc. Neither of those is true...

When I search Google for the Smart card CI-691, all I get are various LinkedIn profiles and random retail sites—there isn't even a dedicated official website where you can actually download the drivers... It's a bit frustrating, isn't it? By the way, which version of Windows are you running? It seems pretty strange to me that it didn't just automatically pull the necessary drivers from the internet the moment you plugged it into the USB port.

These readers usually don't even need drivers. You just plug them in and Windows handles the rest on its own.

Modern Windows versions come with built-in drivers for these smart card readers (Microsoft Usbccid Smartcard Reader WUDF), so you should really just be able to plug it in and go.😁

Try testing it with a different CD/DVD at a friend's place (just download the driver to a USB drive first), or you could just ask Microsoft to send you the drivers directly.
