So, I just picked up a new rig equipped with a 2 TB IBM, but I’ve got some old files sitting on my previous computer—specifically on its IBM. My plan was to just migrate everything over to the new machine, but I've hit a bit of a snag. Every time I plug the old IBM into the new setup, the system just refuses to recognize it. It's like it isn't even there. I'm wondering, does anyone have any idea what might be causing this issue?

Did you check if the power cable is seated right? What about the data cable?

Can you actually see the old IBM drive in the BIOS? Is it even showing up there?

I only hooked up the SATA cable. I haven't actually plugged in the power supply yet

If you’re working with a brand-new IBM, there probably aren't any partitions set up yet, right? So, you'll likely need to build them manually. You can just head over to the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Once that window pops up, look for the Disk Management option on the left-hand side. That's where you'll find your new drive. Just right-click on the new disk, select the option to create a new partition, decide how much space you want to allocate, and then go ahead with the NTFS file system to finish it off. Just... please, be extra careful to make sure you're actually performing these steps on the specific drive you just bought! Once that partition is created, it should show up right there in My Computer, and then you can just drag and drop your data over.

Maybe take a quick look at the jumpers? Just making sure you didn't accidentally set both drives to master by mistake.
