DVD subtitles

So, has anyone here actually messed around with DVD collections lately, or does anyone have some gear similar to mine so we can geek out for a second? I was reading somewhere that you can actually hop online and just grab new subtitle files if they weren't included on the disc right when the movie dropped. Like, say I pick up a flick here in the States and it only comes with English subs, but then a few months down the road, a version with American subtitles becomes available. Instead of blowing more cash to buy the exact same movie all over again, I read there might be a way to just link up to the web and download those American subtitles directly. Anyone else familiar with how that works or dealt with this before?

I've got a bunch of Blu Ray movies (some have American subtitles), but I honestly have no clue if they can actually be ripped 🤷
To be fair, I haven't even bothered looking since I don't really need them, but if something comes to mind, I'll give it a shot
