Hey everyone! I’m kind of reaching out because I really need some help here. I’m 24, and this is something I’ve dealt with my entire life—I finally decided to actually do something about it. It sounds wild, I know, but it’s the truth: I have zero interest in sex or anything intimate at all. And to make things even weirder, I’ve never actually been in love. Please, please don't just give me the "it'll happen when it happens" speech... if it hasn't happened by 24, who knows? I know talking to a pro would be the smart move, but honestly, the idea makes me so uncomfortable I can barely bring myself to do it. This post is basically my first step toward figuring this out. I wanted to ask if anyone has any insight into what might be causing this. Could it be a hormone deficiency? Or is it purely psychological? I've tried Googling and hunting for books, but it's been pretty much a dead end. From what I've gathered, I probably need to get my hormone levels checked, but could someone tell me exactly which ones to look at and what they signify? Testing is expensive, and I really can't afford to just throw money at the wall hoping something sticks. One thing I did find through my own digging is that my cortisol is over 900 in the morning, which seems crazy high. I also have hypothyroidism—found out by accident, nothing too intense symptom-wise—and I've been on Synthroid for about a year and a half now. Lately, I've also been struggling big time with heat; as soon as I get warm, I start sweating all over my body. My blood sugar is fine. Could this be linked to my thyroid, pituitary, or adrenal glands? I've read tons of articles online, but everything focuses on losing libido later in life, not on someone who has felt absolutely zero attraction to others since birth. I haven't found a single thing on the internet about feeling *nothing* at all.
I am seriously begging for some answers because I'm at a loss, and frankly, I'm too embarrassed to talk to doctors about this—I'd probably have to see at least six different specialists before I felt comfortable opening up. Just to be clear, it’s not like I haven't been with people; I’ve been with guys, but it was always just "going through the motions" so I wouldn't feel like a total freak. There’s no spark, no feeling... nothing. You know that "butterflies in your stomach" feeling people talk about when they kiss someone? I don't know what that's like. I can recognize when someone is attractive, sure, but that's where it ends. Thanks for any help you can give!
