Given how common uterine fibroids are, I’m asking as many women as possible who have experience with Esmy to please weigh in here. The good, the bad—everything.

I was on Esmy 3 for three months, and honestly, it didn't do a thing for me. On the flip side, I seemed to collect every single side effect listed in the manual—hot flashes, thickening of the uterine lining, even skin discoloration on my face and legs. During a recent checkup with my private OB-GYN, she told me straight up that she doesn't actually believe Esmy can "dissolve" a fibroid. I don't regret giving it a shot, but if I could offer any advice, it would be this: don't get your hopes up too high. Plus, there’s always the human element to consider when someone is interpreting ultrasound results..

I don't have any firsthand experience with this yet, but I've been researching every possible option because a fibroid that wasn't even there during my pregnancy ballooned up to 6x7cm.
I’m waiting for my six-month postpartum checkup to see what the size looks like now before I make a final call on how to proceed. For context, by six weeks postpartum, it had shrunk down to 3x4cm, which is still way too large.

My OB-GYN mentioned that Esmy can help slow down the growth of fibroids caused by hormonal fluctuations. Essentially, it works similarly to an IUD.
No one ever bothered to tell me that it doesn't actually dissolve them, though.

I’m looking at the claim that "Ulipristal acetate has a direct effect on fibroids by reducing them through cell proliferation inhibition and apoptosis induction." In theory, that would mean it actually shrinks—or "melts," if you want to get fancy—the fibroids. At least, that's what the theory says...

I finished my course of Esmy a month ago, and while my fibroid has definitely shrunk, it’s still not quite small enough to skip surgery. I didn't deal with any side effects, but on the flip side, I've been bleeding constantly—and it's been heavy. Honestly, my period after finishing the treatment was even more intense than what I was dealing with before. I’m heading in tomorrow for blood work and a follow-up appointment to see about starting another round of Esmy.

I’ve been fighting this battle for a long time now. I feel like I've tried every trick in the book and burned through a ton of cash, but I'm not throwing in the towel just yet.

Restarting this thread. Anyone else have experience with Esmy? I’m getting ready to start this medication if my doctor gives me the green light.

Could you share a bit more detail about what you're going through? Like, how big was the fibroid originally, how much has it actually gone down, and are you still facing surgery at this point? I'd love to know if this might work for me too...

I’ve got uterine fibroids. I’m starting back on Esmy again following a hysteroscopy to deal with a submucosal fibroid—hoping to get those heavy periods under control. I don't have an exact measurement of how much they've shrunk, but they definitely helped before. My real concern, though, is the cost. Fibroids are such a massive, widespread issue for women, and I honestly don't understand why these pills aren't on the preferred drug list yet. They're the only thing that actually works, and we're still stuck paying an absolute fortune for them.👎

I’m planning to stick with the Ulipristal acetate—hopefully, it helps bring things down a bit. Once I've finished this round of therapy, the next step on the roadmap is laparoscopic surgery.

I haven't personally used it myself, but both my mother and a client of mine have, and they both had excellent results. For the last five years, my mother dealt with incredibly heavy bleeding and had to undergo numerous D&Cs just to manage it; she tried just about everything under the sun, and Emma ended up being the solution during the three months she was taking it. She still had her period for another three months afterward—though it was a bit heavier—but then she finally transitioned into menopause (she's 53 now), and one of her two fibroids actually disappeared while the other shrunk significantly. As for my client, taking it helped shrink her fibroid and lightened her bleeding considerably.

So, I’m officially starting my Esmy regimen tomorrow. Quick question for those of you who have already been through this...
What time of day do you usually take it? And do you try to stick to pretty much the exact same time every single day?

As for me, I started the very moment I picked them up from the pharmacy at noon, and I've just kept that rhythm going ever since. Honestly, the only thing that really matters is being consistent and taking them at the same time every day.

Has anyone here been on Esmy for more than three months?

Is having a clean breast a reason to hold off on taking Esmy?

Does anyone have any insight on taking Esmy for longer than two three-month cycles?

I was on it about two years ago, and even though I was undergoing therapy at the time, I still ended up developing a few more fibroids; however, the largest one actually shrank from about 7 cm down to 6 cm after two courses. And that was really the extent of it—I just went to see the
Chief Surgeon.
The Chief Surgeon at the hospital (Mayo Clinic) told me that, based on everything they've seen and experienced, this medication is fantastic for older women approaching menopause, but for someone my age back then—only 35—it just doesn't offer enough of an impact to justify the treatment.
But, mind you, I was taking it during the winter, and oh my goodness, the hot flashes were absolutely brutal! Can you imagine? I was standing out on my balcony in the middle of a snowstorm, with temperatures hitting -10 degrees, just yelling because I felt like I was burning up! On the bright side, though, since starting that therapy, I don't seem to be quite as sensitive to the cold; before, I practically spent the entire winter with my backside pressed against the radiator just to stay warm.

How old are you all? And does anyone here have any actual experience getting pregnant after being on Esmy?

Esmy is essentially a hormonal treatment, so once you stop taking it, getting pregnant is perfectly possible; however, one must remain cautious because even while on these tablets, a small percentage of women still end up conceiving, which is why extra precautions are vital (in fact, my husband insisted that we use a condom, NO exceptions). It seems to me they simply haven't gathered enough data regarding how Esmy specifically impacts fertility during use.

Furthermore, even after undergoing surgery to remove fibroids, you can certainly conceive again, though I would suggest waiting at least nine months, as any subsequent pregnancy requires a much higher level of care and vigilance.

I feel like I’ve read every single book and article out there on this subject, so I pretty much know the theory inside and out 🙂
But honestly? What I really need right now are some real-world stories from people who have actually lived through it 😉

To give you some context—I was following Amy's protocol religiously from February all the way through May, and then in July, I ended up having laparoscopic surgery on my ovaries.

So, while I’m sitting here waiting for my first follow-up appointment, I’ve been falling down internet rabbit holes, trying to find women who were pregnant after having surgery like mine
