Since I’m already here, I figured I might as well ask one more thing

I was hoping to set up a formula in Excel that would automatically calculate sales tax for me

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks so much in advance

Well, all formulas start with an equals sign, so you just type it in.

"=A7*1.25" This assumes A7 holds your base price and you're adding a 25% sales tax.

Swede, you haven't a clue. 🙂 Sales tax here is 22%. 😬

Man, if the big shots at Congress saw this, they’d jump to 25% in a heartbeat since they already have the math worked out. 😁

therefore : in cell b2
In cell B2, you just type in 1000 (then right-click, go to Format Cells, pick Number, then Currency, and under Symbol select USD—it’ll show up automatically $333.... don't mess that part up or it won't look right 😁)

In cell B3 (where A3 says Sales Tax 22% 😁), you type: =B2*0.22
In cell B4 (where A4 says TOTAL 😁), you type: =B2*1.22

I gave that a shot (I even went ahead and formatted the numbers as currency), but I’ve run into one little snag. When I have an amount like $100.22, the formula just breaks and throws a #VALUE! error instead of calculating correctly.
How can I get this to work right?

Widen the cell.

Or just shrink the font size.
