Exchanging US Dollars

Where would be the most sensible place for me to exchange my US Dollars into Kuna? Does anyone know who charges the lowest commission? Should I be looking at banks, or perhaps local currency exchange offices?

The exchange office has a lower fee. It’s not a huge gap, though. Say, if you take 100 US Dollars to a bank, you might end up with about 4 or maybe $1.75 less than what you'd get at an exchange booth.

I do my own currency exchanges, but I’m picky about where I go...
Since I have no clue which city you're in, just stay away from those airport kiosks or any exchange booths inside shopping malls in Washington, D.C., because their rates are an absolute joke.
I stick to the smaller, local spots around town; today one of them gave me a rate of 7.42 when the Federal Reserve was at 7.45 for selling Euros...

There’s a currency exchange right on the Potomac near the Arlington Memorial Bridge. That’s usually my go-to spot. I think I once had to use JP Morgan Chase just because the exchange office was closed.

How much are you actually moving if you're obsessing over the exchange rate? If we’re talking about swapping a few thousand, honestly, who cares if it’s $1.08 or $1.10—it’s peanuts. But if you're shifting something substantial, say $15,000 or $20,000, then yeah, you might want to shop around. At that scale, you could squeeze out an extra $1,000 or $500
if you play your cards right.
