Something happened today.
The topic is Vol wood central heating and the issue of protecting the boiler from flue gas condensation.
Back on December 27, 2019, Zachary Bailey asked another user about this, explaining that you have to protect the boiler because manufacturers require it for longer warranties and the overall lifespan of the unit.

Zachary Bailey's response

regarding Zachary Bailey's expertise on another thread.

Today, Zachary Bailey asked me again about whether the boiler needs protection.

My response

An answer from a year ago

The moderator's reaction and post

What right does Robert Martin23 have as a moderator to insult and call out a user publicly in front of everyone else?
If my post breaks any Forum rules, he can just delete it or issue a warning.
If a moderator doesn't understand what boiler protection is or why it's necessary, they should just ask and read the technical manuals I'm attaching to my post.
I'm looking for a public explanation as to why Robert Martin23 keeps calling me out and insulting me across different threads.

I have exercised a great deal of patience regarding you and your contributions here. You possess such a refined talent for drifting into OFF, yet I have refrained from immediate intervention...
Due to your particular style of communication, you have faced various penalties in years past, ranging from mere warnings to a six-month suspension. Within the thread Vol wood central heating vol. 4 - read 1st post, there are specific warnings laid out—guidelines I failed to strictly enforce in your case, under the naive assumption that your behavior might eventually mature...

I do not intend to perform an exhaustive autopsy of your posts. To begin, I will point back to the warning regarding * thread drifting, where you acted like Robert Martin23. You frequently veer into off-topic territory when providing descriptions or offers for buffer tanks on threads that bear no relation to them.
Naturally, you seem oblivious to these lapses, convinced that everything is perfectly fine as long as it concerns your own heating systems and diagrams. This is not your private forum...

Furthermore, I fail to see where any personal insult was directed at you...
Robert Martin23 said:Zachary Bailey3, you can clearly see he doesn't have the answer, yet you continue to blunt him with endless questions. Please, just leave him be, as he seems unable to understand himself. This is pushing the absolute limits of my patience.

If you consider that an insult, please enlighten me as to how I offended you; looking back through your previous replies, you haven't actually answered Zachary Bailey3's question...

That is all for this year; I believe it is time for some rest...

Robert Martin23 said:I’ve been pretty patient with you and your posts. You sure know how to head OFF, but I don't always jump on it right away.

Sometimes people ask questions in threads where they clearly don't belong, and if they're as clueless as I am, they get moved to the right spot without a second thought. But when I do it? I get slapped with a warning. It doesn't feel fair.
Why bother being patient with anyone? I’m just having a debate with someone else, and as long as we're following the Forum rule and not bothering anyone, nobody should have to put up with us.
Your little favorites here, like Zachary Bailey3, love to stir the pot and pick at my posts with those annoying questions. He and everyone else keeps trying to find flaws in what I write, but honestly, neither he nor anyone else—not even you—can actually point out a single technical error. I'm only posting this now just to make it crystal clear.
I’ve mentioned it a few times already—point out a specific sentence or a detail, but you never actually do. If you check the last couple of pages in the pellet heating thread, you'll see how other users tell people not to go looking for luck on this forum. It went totally unnoticed.
Thread closed. No reason given.
I actually ended up getting hit with a six-month ban back in the day because of how I used to write, even though they didn't give me a permanent strike. It was all over this thread. Vol wood central heating - Part 4 - check out the first post. It's written. Just a few heads-up on some special warnings. I guess I didn't always follow the rules when it came to you; I just figured it would all settle down on its own eventually.

You're getting penalized for how you write? Just look back at your old posts about water or whatever—it’s all the same thing. I get that you're just trying to be helpful, and honestly, that's fine, but you've gotta follow the rules on how to frame it.
There’s this clique that used to hang around the wood central heating threads, and now they basically act like they own the whole forum. If you don't do things exactly their way, they turn on you. I didn't join their little circle or buy the stuff they were pushing, so I ended up getting unfairly banned. It's been six months since then, and honestly, looking at my single post with 25 points, I think my contribution speaks for itself. You can see the difference too.
I'm not really looking to dive deep into an analysis of your posts right now. For starters, I’m just going back to that warning about... This discussion is really starting to drag on. Where are you going, Robert Martin23? You keep drifting into off-topic territory in the descriptions and offers for PTV on threads that have absolutely nothing to do with them.

It’s all part of the discussion, so there shouldn't be any bans over this—it really just depends on the specific situation.
Look, you’re clearly missing the bigger picture here. You only seem to care about your own setup and your specific wiring diagrams, acting like nothing else matters. This isn't just your personal project to run.

I’ve been looking through everyone else's posts, and honestly, I don't see any difference. This isn't even my main thing, but we're a community, and I just want to make sure everyone gets treated fairly.
Honestly, I don't see how any of this was an insult directed at you personally.
If you really think I insulted you, please just tell me how. Looking back at the thread, you didn't even address Zachary Bailey3's actual question.

It’s not an insult to admit I’m confused or can't find an answer, but you aren't even pointing out which question went unanswered. That feels a bit unfair.
What weight do technical manuals written by hydraulic engineers actually hold to you?
I actually wrote down the answer to that "expert's" question a year ago and even linked the professional journal, but apparently, it wasn't enough for him or for you.
The main issue is when you wrote, "Zachary Bailey3, look, he clearly doesn't have an answer, and you keep badgering him with questions. Just leave him alone since he can't even figure himself out. This is testing everyone's patience."
How is that a normal way for anyone to post, especially coming from you as a moderator?

I'm exercising my right to appeal based on the community guidelines.
"Your feedback, ideas, complaints, or comments. How can we make this Forum better and more civil?"

We all need to be more civil—I'm definitely voting for that option.

It's been a long year; I really need some downtime.

For sure, take it easy!

Hey, Robert Martin23, just a heads-up from one user to a mod—maybe watch those typos and grammar slips? It looks a little goofy when a moderator has spelling errors, especially since so many people are reading this PDF.

Thanks for the heads-up.
I know there’s no making excuses for my behavior. It is quite curious, however, that I found myself facing such a stern reprimand simply because I dared to point out the exact same pattern in other members...👍

I will certainly endeavor to be more careful, though lapses like this do occasionally occur...

Since Robert Martin23 is currently busy rocking a refreshing face mask and some cucumber slices over his eyes—trying to get rid of those dark circles from staring at a computer screen all day so he can look sharp for the New Year's Eve party at the Sheraton—I think we should probably hold off on any big wishes until next year.

Happy New Year to you too! 🙂

Why is the moderator Robert Martin23 sending me messages like this

Am I supposed to just pick my own topics out of thin air?
If my replies to other users' questions break any rules, then I should be treated just like everyone else—so why the double standard?
That’s what Robert Martin23 suggested after talking to another user who started the thread
It seems Robert Martin23 missed the fact that the provocation and the attempt to bait me happened right here
It feels like a little clique of users decided they can say whatever they want, and Robert Martin23 is just letting it slide.

Today, Zachary Bailey opened up more questions and called me out, basically restarting a discussion that was actually being professional and civil.
Other members jumping in to learn or share their thoughts on the solutions we're discussing is totally fine.
Specifically regarding this thread
After that unfinished discussion, Robert Martin23 reached out to me again with some kind of warning. So, my question for him is: what is your post even about?
I'm not breaking any rules; I'm just defending my points. Why are you stepping in when what I'm doing is perfectly allowed by the site rules?

It's pretty interesting to look at how this other user is trying to find excuses and criticisms to aim at me.

By acting like certain other users are "specialists" or deserve special status, they're violating my right to equal treatment under the general forum rules.
Talking to other regular users should be treated the same as talking to these "special" groups. That didn't trigger a moderator response before, but now, when I'm talking to this specific group, the moderator keeps posting in the thread like he's against me, handing out warnings without any real reason for a penalty. Again, what's the point of these posts?
Robert Martin23, you constantly call me out and demand proof for my claims, but I'll tell you once more: you don't have the right to demand that.

I'm asking those in charge of overseeing the moderators to weigh in on why Robert Martin23 is communicating this way.

My dear Emily Myers8, you seem to have neglected to ask the moderators to take a closer look at how other users interact with your posts on these heating threads... It is necessary to grasp the specific tone you adopt toward everyone if you expect my request to remain on these topics without facing a permanent ban to be granted.

You remind me of a snail spending an entire year crawling up a garden fence just to reach the other side. Just as you finally reach the top, the groundskeeper pulls you back down to prevent any damage, yet you simply begin the climb all over again... and so it continues, endlessly, from day one.

I suggested that you start your own thread—any topic you desire—with the genuine intention of fostering a discussion among interested members in a style that actually suits your temperament.

However, please refrain from entering the heating discussions altogether, as you tend to derail every conversation, and your monologues simply refuse to end...

When your last ban was issued, the condition for your return was quite clear: either step away from these specific topics or cease the exact behavior that got you banned in the first place. But...

I truly meant well, but you really crossed the line, man; you truly went too far.

Robert Martin23 said:Dear "our" Emily Myers8, you forgot to ask the mods to actually do their jobs and read what other people have already posted on the heating threads that were directed at you.

So, basically, anyone else's input is automatically better or more correct than mine, and I'm just supposed to swallow that?
What’s even the point of these discussions if nobody ever points out a detail that actually breaks the rules? Most of the time, they just offer a different way of doing things.
It feels like some people just want a quick fix, but then they'll turn around and complain anyway because there’s another way to do it. It’s like they don't even want help; they just attack whatever I write without any actual arguments.
In this specific case (it was about underfloor heating and single-parameter control, and Zachary Bailey started the thread, not me), I agreed with what Zachary said was possible and offered my own suggestion. He didn't really push back, but then other members jump in claiming it won't work or isn't necessary, all without providing a shred of proof.
I even suggested they look at the "Seltron" controllers, but that’s never enough. They demand the exact type, model, wiring diagrams, and logic just so they can rudely snap, "That’s not needed, we can do it differently."
The Seltron ACC40 is designed for boiler loop regulation, with dual-point sensing—which is the improved setup I'm advocating for. This could easily be applied to the regulation we were discussing, but the commenters causing these arguments either don't get it or are intentionally making things difficult just to be contrarian.
I’m not going to engage with that kind of attitude; that's where I draw the line. You can certainly point out when someone isn't following the Forum rule, but that's it.
To back up my technical points, I’ve shared writings from actual engineers who live this stuff, yet that still isn't enough for this specific group. Meanwhile, plenty of other folks have read those documents and actually learned something useful.
Moving these conversations elsewhere just hurts the forum. I'd much rather keep everything here, but it's hard when a few people keep making it impossible.
The topics I write about come from 45 years of hands-on experience. Maybe those subjects aren't as familiar to you, but I don't see any reason why you should stop anyone from posting as long as they follow the rules.
If someone suggests something that works, I'll say "sure" or "looks good." If it's wrong, I'll say it's wrong. I don't see why anyone should get upset over that.
The only ones getting angry and being combative are the ones who don't actually want to help others.
I need to understand your tone and how you interact with everyone if I'm going to try and help you stay on these threads without getting banned.

People who don't understand my explanations will just keep asking, so I try to simplify things. Then there's this other group that constantly attacks me simply because they are pushing a different solution. To me, that's just wrong.
You're like a snail trying to climb a fence post to get into the garden. Every time you reach the top, the guard pulls you back down to prevent damage, and you just start all over again. It's an endless cycle, right from day one.

You really need an actual example to back that up, and you should be sure about what you're claiming. Since you don't have one, this post just says more about you than anything else.
Look, I genuinely suggested you start your own thread—whatever kind you want—so you could have a discussion with other interested people on the board in whatever style works best for you.

I actually made that suggestion here:
And here was your response:
From your reply, I gathered that my suggestions weren't being taken seriously, so why would I bother suggesting anything else?
Just stay away from the heating threads. You ruin every debate, and you just can't stop talking until everyone's exhausted.

If you’ve got a reason, delete your post, share some data, or just join the conversation if you're confused. I provide proof for every single detail I bring up, and I expect the same from anyone challenging me.
Relying on hearsay isn't something I can accept. Personal connections playing a role here is something that should be avoided on a forum like this.
When I ask others questions because the math doesn't add up, they often stay silent. To me, that's proof they're either making things up or they can't justify their previous posts.
When you got your last ban, the condition was that you either leave these topics alone or stop acting the way you did that got you banned in the first place. But still...

If there were warnings issued that aren't what you're describing, that's a different issue. As for why I got banned, that's another story entirely. If it wasn't for the rude, dirty tactics used by a specific group to target me—people who publicly attacked me without any evidence—I wouldn't have had to deal with a ban.
If I had all those posts and the time to write them out, I could probably write a book. It's enough for me to see how many people just stop participating in threads where the same group gets to throw insults and punches without any consequences. That number is huge. Aside from me, nobody else deals with that unless they have their own reasons, which is their right.
I meant well, but man, you really overdid it.

Please, read back what you wrote; I think you should follow your own advice.

I won't comment on any threads until I get an answer as to why I'm being denied the right to comment on threads backed by evidence . If I don't get a response within 24 hours, I'll keep posting. Use your authority for everything that isn't following the rules.

I started hiccuping uncontrollably like some kind of glitching robot😠 Then someone pointed me toward this place where everyone keeps bringing up this guy Zachary Bailey3! Honestly, after reading through all that crap, I almost had a freaking heart attack.🤦🙏
Hey Emily Myers8!
The way you interpret things and try to explain them is totally misleading people on this forum who don't know their stuff, and honestly, it could end up costing them a fortune or messing with their health.🕺
Look, whenever you start spouting some absolute nonsense, I’m gonna take it upon myself to shut down that garbage idea using actual facts. 😒
Even Ramsey, who we actually learned from and could have really gained insight from, bailed on this place just so he wouldn't have to listen to your stupidity. He actually tried to walk you through things at first, but... hey, even the smartest guys eventually realize it's not worth the headache!☕
Maybe you should've noticed that about a dozen of us over on the "Heating..." boards are constantly pushing back against most of your "theories" and so-called "proof"!

Your current approach to writing is simply no longer sustainable on any threads pertaining to heating systems. The comments you post have become these impenetrable walls of text, overflowing with endless ideas and complex combinations that ultimately render the entire discussion incoherent and impossible to follow...
The threads are DIY enthusiast spaces where people seek practical advice alongside solutions that are actually feasible "for the DIY crowd" and easy to implement. That is the spirit of these discussions—an exchange of practical and theoretical experience. But then you step in and turn everything into a disorganized mess, where real solutions are buried under a mountain of science-fiction theories that you seem so fond of...
You are killing these threads. You exhaust everyone with proofs and debates that fail to offer significant, actionable solutions, leaving them as nothing more than abstract concepts on a page. You behave like a schoolteacher who insists on explaining the same lesson to students over and over again, using a different method every single day...
I have been patient with you for a year now. Even after your ban was lifted, you failed to adhere to the conditions and reverted to your old ways immediately. It serves no purpose anymore, which is why I wrote those last two posts as a final warning to stop...

Do not bother asking for proof, because it is evident in every thread you touch! Your behavior isn't just an issue for the administration; it’s an issue for everyone participating in these discussions...

I told you once, and I am telling you for the last time: go ahead and start a PDF thread titled DIY enthusiast dedicated to modern heating, 21st-century solutions, or whatever you care to call it. There, you can debate and present all your theories for commentary, provided you stay within the Forum rule. You certainly won't lack an audience, so there is no need to worry about that. You will have total freedom to exhaust every possible scheme, option, diagram, and theory until you are blue in the face. Try to make the topics engaging for all skill levels and backgrounds—people who might actually be able to follow you. That thread will be moderated by the SSM moderators via PDF...

But as for these existing threads involving heating, you must abandon your current way of posting...

Robert Martin23 said:Honestly, the way you write just doesn't fly anymore whenever we talk about anything related to heating.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. I’m a stickler for details, so if I try to be brief, I end up rambling just to get everything out there. If there's an official Forum rule about keeping things short and sweet, could you please add it? Just let me know how you want us to phrase things.
Your posts are turning into these massive walls of text packed with so many ideas and combinations that the whole thread is becoming a total mess to follow.

You didn't give an example, but we can look at the last one. We have two water inlets and one outlet; I’m arguing that you have to monitor the inlet ratio to meet the output requirements, while Zachary Bailey is basically saying who cares about the input as long as the result is there. Our perspectives are different, and I laid out my reasoning, whereas he just brushed it off. If those two approaches are actually the same, then I guess I'm the one who's wrong.
The topics are... I'm just out here trying to DIY my way through it. People are looking for more than just practical advice here; they want solutions that actually make sense to implement in the real world. I'm such a klutz sometimes. It’s actually pretty easy to pull off. Honestly, that's just how things work here—everyone's always swapping practical tips and theory on these topics.

I’ve posted hundreds of photos showing exactly how things work in practice, specifically addressing that whole "where does the water go" question. A bunch of contractors were constantly pushing back against my posts, even when I was being thorough—one of those guys was Zachary Bailey3, who actually showed up here too. He once told me, "The earth is flat, go write somewhere else," but he deleted that comment and now acts like nothing happened. It’s honestly pretty sad that we’re still wasting time arguing about personalities instead of focusing on the actual ideas and the technical stuff that matters.
It’ll take forever until you finally step up and mess everything up by making a terrible fish stew, where none of those sci-fi sounding tips you're always full of actually seem to work.
You're totally killing these threads. You just bury them under mountains of evidence and debates that don't actually offer any real-world solutions—they all just end up staying on paper.

You wrote that "Who are you even writing to..." line a long time ago, starting right when you called me out without any real justification. Either the details I laid out are right or they aren't—we can actually talk about that, but you always seem to dodge the point in your critiques.
You’ve got patience, I'll give you that. It’s not exactly easy for me to carve out an hour or two just to write something that actually makes sense to everyone reading it. My goal here is to be helpful, too. I’ve been working with SSM 45 for basically my whole life—one era ended in '75, and now we're in a whole new one. I’m all about modern solutions. What Zachary Bailey3 showed us is fine, sure, but that’s 1980s logic. I’m pushing for a 2020 approach.
I’ve been patient with you for a whole year now. You didn't stick to the terms after your ban was lifted, and you just went right back to your old ways. This isn't working anymore, which is why I sent those last two posts as a final warning to knock it off.

Why should I have patience? Look, if someone breaks the rules, you delete the post, hand out a red card, or issue a ban. That’s how you handle things when there's a valid reason. When I'm debating someone else, I don't need you jumping into the weeds of our specific discussion unless we're actually breaking any Forum rules. We're on an online board here. If this were my office, you'd be signing paperwork for a fee, but here, I'm just trying to help someone out.
Stop looking for proof, because it’s obvious in every single thread you post in. It’s not just the admins who can't stand how you act—it's everyone else on these forums too.

I never actually got any warnings from the admin team. One moderator who messed up and took me too harshly eventually owned up to it and fixed things over the last six months. I really respect that, and I'm happy to move past it—we all slip up sometimes.
I already sent you what I wrote, and this is my last one—check the PDF. I'm just my own handyman. Let’s talk about modern heating—whatever you want to call it, whether it's high-tech solutions for the 21st century or just staying warm. Feel free to throw out your ideas and get a discussion going. Just make sure to play by the Forum rules.

I'll definitely open that once I see a real need for it, thanks for the suggestion.

Don't sweat the audience; you definitely won't be lacking. You've got total freedom to go wild with all your ideas, diagrams, and deep dives—just write and debate until you're blue in the face. Just try to make the topics engaging enough for everyone, regardless of their background, so people can actually connect with what you're saying. The moderators over at SSM handle the thread management.

I'm calling on you to jump in and help us make this new thread even better.
Any existing threads that deal with heating in any way... The way it’s been written up until now just kind of misses the mark.

I guess I'll just stick to commenting like Zachary Bailey3 if that's what everyone's okay with.
If you actually find a reason to do it, go ahead and hand out the ban. Problem solved.

It feels like everything you say is a personal attack on me (like when you told me "the earth is round, go write elsewhere") just because I'm sharing my thoughts. We went over the details, but you're nowhere near my level of knowledge. I tried to explain how it works several times, but you just ended up deciding I'm obsessed with some specific setup. You don't know what you're talking about, and that's the truth. You could have actually tested it and said, "yeah, this works" or "this is crap," but even if we cut out one hydraulic switch, the result stays the same—and someone's bank account will eventually feel the difference.

You could've actually tested it and told me if it's garbage or gold, but instead, you're just arguing. like your message saying "the earth is round, go take a leak"
I never even said that!😠 Did you seriously not know the earth was round?🤔

When I read stuff like this, I lose my damn mind! And then you act all confused and pretend everything is fine.

1. That X-Y-40 circulation pump can only lift water up 4 meters; you can't use it in a house where the radiators are sitting higher than 4 meters above the pump.
You clearly don't get that it’s a pressurized system with both suction and discharge pipes, and circulation isn't just about pushing water to a certain height—it's a continuous loop.
2.The circulation pump (that little 100W one) only has an expansion tank connection right at the suction side.
So what happens if there are multiple pumps or if they're using a Vol wood central heating open system?
3.You absolutely need a return loop and the corresponding bypass setup to prevent condensation in the boiler.
How is that supposed to work or stop condensation when I'm just starting the fire? Once the flames are roaring, I don't even need that protection anymore.
4.And then there's this push to force that famous "2T to 4d" connection.
Every single loop or group needs its own dedicated circulation pump. It's just throwing money down the drain!
5.The return water temperature has to be at least 5°C lower!
Some guy on the forum mentioned his delta is only 3°C! What's wrong with that if the setup is already running optimally?
