I've got this Seagate Expansion Desktop (2TB) that keeps hitting 50°C on me! Is that actually okay? My old Seagate One Touch (250GB) never even gets hotter than 35°C...

Heh. You mean 2 TB? 😁 😁 I haven't heard of anyone being able to buy a 2 GB hard drive these days. 😁 😁
That temperature is way too high for that drive—it's definitely not okay. Something is clearly wrong. If it's still under warranty, you should contact support immediately.
