Flavio Briatore's wildest ideas

So I've been digging through some NASCAR news and just passing along some ideas from Flavio on how to make NASCAR actually interesting again... thoughts?

- He thinks the races run way too long and those last 20 minutes are usually a total snooze fest
- His pitch is doing two separate 45-minute races, where the second one starts in reverse order based on the first race's finish
- Moving race times to night or early morning instead of always sticking to that mid-afternoon slot
- Overhauling qualifying entirely

What’s the verdict? I get it, sometimes the races drag on forever once the outcome is basically decided, but... personally, I dig seeing two or more pit stops. It keeps things tense.
Doing two races in one day though... man, I don't know. I've been watching NASCAR since I was a kid and that would feel incredibly weird, even if I'm sure it'd bring in a ton of excitement.
And racing at night? Would these cars even have headlights? That mid-afternoon start doesn't always work for my schedule either... but hey, that's just how NASCAR is.

He’d love to catch the race at 1 AM, though. I reckon that would be pretty damn good.

I’ve actually got just two things I’d love to see changed:
firstly, let's shake up the final part of qualifying so that everyone gets their own dedicated flying lap
and secondly, we really need to overhaul the race schedule—let's get more short sprints on the calendar!

The weather's gone absolutely haywire lately, which actually makes me think starting the race in reverse qualifying order might not be such a bad call. Plus, why not give out points for the qualifying sessions themselves?

But hey, people have been yapping about that forever and nothing ever actually happens...
It's pretty obvious that Formula 1 needs to evolve piece by piece, but they’ve already dumped a ton of changes on us for next season—like this whole engine development freeze nonsense and all those other headaches...

If you ask me, they should just shave five minutes off the final part of qualifying. It's done. Because honestly, a single lap feels a bit 👎

The guy just wants to transplant the whole NASCAR Xfinity Series structure into Formula 1. Some of his suggestions actually make sense—like bringing back points for pole position and the fastest lap—but I honestly don't see a sprint race working in Formula 1. The way it's set up in the Xfinity Series, the "main" event is on Saturday, making the sprint a high-stakes warmup that builds momentum perfectly for the big show.

Meanwhile, Max Mosley is coming out with some absolutely ridiculous ideas in his Formula 1 racing column. He's talking about drivers switching teams every single race... 🙄

I’ve thought Flavio was a clown for a long time now. This just feels like the final confirmation I needed.

I suppose someone might suggest that drivers should actually stick to the track instead of tearing around in their cars, and then you all just sit there looking appalled by the suggestion...

hm, I honestly wish they’d just bring back the old qualifying format—you know, the one-hour sessions where you actually get to see who has the fastest car. If they keep changing things like this every couple of years, I guess Formula 1 might actually lose its soul entirely. It's getting hard to even recognize the sport anymore. 😢they've really gone overboard with how fast they're changing the rules lately—I mean, they actually got things right this year, so maybe they should just leave it alone for at least two more seasons.

Anyway, here's my two cents: what if we gave out points for qualifying just like we do for the race, but then you actually start the race in reverse order? It would create endless, insane tactical possibilities...

He’s always clawing for the headlines—it’s his whole thing—so he’s bound to say something idiotic just to stay relevant, which is why I don't give him a second thought at all.🙂

Man, that old qualifying format was total garbage. This current way is at least interesting to watch; racing against a stopwatch never really did anything for me. They should probably show more live data during the broadcast—like who else is currently on a flyer, for instance—but otherwise, I think that was one of the worst ways to handle qualifying...
