Can someone please—and I mean *please*—explain why this Reddit keeps logging me out for absolutely no reason? Like, out of nowhere...

...I’ll be right in the middle of reading a thread, feeling totally inspired to jump in and drop a comment, and then—BAM—some pop-up tells me I need to register because I'm apparently a guest...

...which is total nonsense because I know for a fact I logged in properly maybe five or ten minutes ago—not to mention how many times I've had to do that already

HELP!

Clear out your cookies, temp files, and all that junk.
If you're on an old-school dial-up connection, just make sure your session isn't timing out while you're idling.

If you're still rocking some ancient dial-up connection, check if it’s dropping you offline automatically after being idle for a few seconds.

Look, I don't have any cookies (other than the ones I eat 😉 ), no temp files, and none of that other nonsense...

I'm on high-speed broadband and it never kicks me off unless I actually tell it to...

So yeah—it's still 😢

I’d actually suggest keeping them enabled 🙂

Reddit uses cookies to remember you; if you've got your settings dialed to block them, the site will just ask you to log in every single time because it won't recognize who you are...

Reddit uses cookies to actually recognize you—if you’ve got your settings cranked up to block everything, the site's basically going to treat you like a total stranger every single time you refresh. You'll be stuck logging in constantly because it has zero clue who you are...

Ugh, here we go again. 👋

I mean, why didn't you tell me to clear my cookies earlier then? 😕

Anyway, I totally get why I have to sign back in after I manually log out, but I don't get why the site kicks me out while I'm actually *using* it. Like, I'm right in the middle of reading threads, scrolling through pages, or typing out a reply, and suddenly—bam—logged out. It makes zero sense.

.. just go to Tools, then Options... find the section for cookies and other site data and clear them out.... then let me know if you're still running into issues..

I did, but I thought you meant your browser was set to not save them at all, not that you had just cleared them out manually. 😉

I’ve been running into the same issue—getting kicked out randomly while I'm just browsing sites. I already tried clearing my cookies and cache, but apparently, that wasn't enough because it keeps happening. Does anyone know how to track down temporary files? Maybe that's actually the culprit here. Also—why on earth can't I see any of the images that have been posted?

I'm running into the exact same thing... I've got this ADSL connection that stays active non-stop, but if I step away from Reddit for even ten minutes—like, I'll hop over to some other site but stay logged in—it just kicks me out every single time I try to come back. Honestly, I have no clue what's going on...

No need to stress out, our local police officers usually just clear those away on their own... 😁

When you're logging in, just make sure to check the box that says "remember me!"

That’s really all there is to it. 😉

And seriously, just toss Internet Explorer 6 in the trash where it belongs. It happens constantly on that thing... absolute garbage of a browser.

Is everyone else running into this, or did I just mess up the registration process?

Every time I stay logged in for more than five minutes, it kicks me out and forces a re-login.

Also... say I'm deep into reading some really long thread, right? And just as I finally reach the bottom of the page and click over to the next one, I realize the OP!! has logged out on me...😕...
It’s honestly pretty irritating...

Same thing is happening to me—cookies are on, I checked the remember me box, I'm running Internet Explorer 6, using ADSL...

Basically, the feature just isn't working... even though it worked fine back on the old forum...

Man, this new forum is such a mess—it's totally broken, and honestly? The worst part is that the admins couldn't care less about any of this. 👎

Well, I have the exact same setup as you and IT WORKS FOR ME.

It’s clearly not a broken site, otherwise everyone would be complaining.

I can't quite put my finger on the catch, but I suspect it's a local issue on the specific machines having trouble. If it were a bug in the forum software itself, we'd all be seeing it, not just a handful of people.

Apparently, it’s too much to ask them to read five previous posts... clear their cookies, check the "remember me" box on the forum, and actually click YES when Chrome asks if they want to save credentials for the site ☕

It's an exhausting ordeal, I know ☕
